Why not sign him in Montreal?

I always imagined Desharnais ending up in Europe at some point, though I would not have anticipated Russia. If this is true, it must be the money talking.

Odd how a lot of us complained about having David Desharnais and Tomas Plekanec as centres ... they weren't the best in the league, granted, but I dare say we miss them now ... aside; can you imagine fan reaction if Marc Bergevin were to re-sign DD ... he played overseas during the shortened 2012-13 season with Fribourg-Gotteron HC, (Swiss-A) and did well ... other former Habs players have in Switzerland ... Patrick/ Stephan Lebeau, Paul DiPietro (extensive), Gaston Gingras, Gilles Thibaudeau, et al ... that said, it's not unusual for teams to supply their players with accommodations and cars while they're on the team ... for conversation's sake, that's akin to an all-expenses-paid trip to Europe, while working at a job you actually enjoy ... it's an excellent opportunity to immerse one's self into the European culture ... there are worse avenues into retirement, I suppose ... Cheers.

DD showed he could be okay in a role where he's sheltered by two wingers, but he got exposed defensively too much. Using him as a #1 placed too many expectations on his performance. As a tradition #2, or in a role not unlike Bonino in Nashville where he's a modern day #3, he could be effective.

I thought David Desharnais did what was asked of him but like you said, he got exposed defensively a lot of times ... thought he did just fine when he was moved to the wing ... as for Tomas Plekanec, it's really nice seeing excel when he isn't being relied upon as a #1 centre ... a perfect veteran centre who can back up guys like Austin Matthews and Nazem Kadri ... mind you, he has a better all-around supporting cast in Toronto, so that helps too ... Cheers.
