They have been rumoured to him for a while now. A 21 year old centre playing for the Armada in their back yard. He also has been at camp before. This is a can not hurt move. They have also been linked to a Q defender (Galipeau), so see if that happens too. He is also very much still playing. The Armada have been rolling, and are now up 2-0 in their semi after going a combined 8-1 in the first two rounds. Is Joel Bouchard next once their season is done?

This is a sensible signing. The organisation already knows the kid. Alain possesses some skill and there is no doubt that he is smart and hard working.
I would like to see Bouchard as Laval's GM and Canadien Assistant GM. Unfortunately, I doubt it happens.

Seems like a decent move. He put up points with the kid Tampa signed, and he put up ppg numbers the year before in what would have been limited time with ABB. 19 points in 12 playoff games this season.

Yeah, some of the local media almost requested a provincial inquiry when the Habs did not sign Barre-Boulet. How dare Yzerman come in and outbid the local team for a kid that went undrafted for a few years!! Alain has outscored Barre-Boulet in the playoffs and actually leads the Q with 11 goals in 12 games. They both are listed as centres, so they may actually play on separate lines. I have not watched any Armada playoff games so cannot speak first hand on that. In the end, this is like getting a free 3rd or 4th round pick a few drafts ago. The odds are usually against these undrafted "late bloomers", but nothing ventured nothing gained. I am glad the team has been active in signing a few young free agents and also inviting a ton of guys for a short audition at the end of the Laval season. The reality is that the team depth in Laval can use a big boost and the team's support to Brampton in the ECHL was almost non-existent all season. In fact, with all the injuries and lack of players (43 guys under NHL contract is just not enough), the Rocket ended up constantly poaching Brampton guys to short term PTO's to fill their roster rather than assigning guys to help Brampton.

I read somewhere this morning that he was playing on ABB's right side. I look at him as an injection of talent for the lower levels as well. Maybe he finds a way to make the NHL, maybe he doesn't. Regardless, you're adding a skilled player to the system.

If nothign else, his head hits the 6 foot marker.
There are a lot of hard working, good skating kids here and in Europe, but they are simply too small for the NHL grind. At least he start out with decent size and then, let's see where he develops. If it takes him 3-4 years to be a Denault, I'm great with that.
As for "provincial inquiries" to why someone else dare sign Quebec players and the Habs don't.......shove it. They can park their complaints outside multi-millionaire Quebec player houses when they go and sign to the highest bidder.
