LInk: www.tsn.ca/trotz-steps-down-as-capitals-coach-1.1116217This didn't surprise me. It's been brewing for some time and while there was an automatic 2 year renewal clause in his current contract if he won the Cup, the salary number wasn't satisfactory to Trotz. He'd want to get paid like the Babcock's, Quenneville's and Julien's, who have also won cups.

The Islanders may throw money at him in order to consolidate that wow factor that might help with Tavares' decision. However, Lamoriello is a task master and Trotz is known, at least during his years in Washington, as being a players coach.

It seems the obvious fit, Trotz to the Isles, but as you point out, there may be some conflicts with the chemistry between Lamoriello and Trotz.
I got into a debate on-line with some Isles fans when I suggested that if I was Tavares, having Lamoriello appointed GM wouldn't exactly thrill me. My suggestion was to pick out a team with a guality GM, coach, fans and teammates and sign there. You'll invariably be happier. Well, didn't that start a difference of opinion. Comments like "have you seen the moves he's made since taking over?" etc. Telling the guy(s) that I was basing it on 20 years worth of his results in NJ didn't seem to have any impact. Lamoriello is the guy who didn't even do baseline testing on the DEvils in the 07/08 season. He admitted to finally doing them, under oath, at the end of the season...after the playoffs. What the hell good is baseline testing after the season? It shows his disregard for the health of his players. John...go elsewhere. Sharks, Preds, Blues, Knights...anywhere where you think the coach and GM actually care about you and not just your 80 points. That eliminates the Habs, btw.
