The hype in Leafland is on full blast, of course. Tavares scores his first goal, in a pre season game and it's the lead story on TSN. Not a single mention of why all the Ottawa players were above the hash marks when Tavares is wide open below them. With that much space, even Plekanec could have scored there. Ok, maybe that's stretching things. One Tavares goal in a small Hockeyville community arena was enough fodder for a week's worth of TSN highlights, just imagine two goals. This hype train is going nowhere but up this season. I am just gearing up to be in semi-permanent ignore mode for our national networks. The problem in Leaf land is that it's not just the sports networks. The Leafs also show up on the newscasts. The only way to avoid it here is a total TV blackout.  |

Leafs' fans are having a legit blast of optimism, based in the knowledge that their management team is top-shelf competent.
We weren't even on the Tavares GPS. No directions to Montreal needed.
I haven't felt that way about the Habs since the Serge Savard GM-era. A sense of calm, measured, astute leadership. Everything under control. Not in all cases, of course....nobody's perfect.
But let me know when Shanahan, Dubas, and Babcock mess up. They were able to turn Kadri (32 goals last year) into a team player. Third line centre behind Tavares (37 goals) and Matthews (34 goals).
Almost a guaranteed 100+ goals from your top 3 centres.
They were honest with their fans about the horrible couple of years ahead. The media backed-off.
Tank for Matthews later, and it's been a steady, powerful build.
I'm envious of Leafs' fans. I know that feeling.

I loved the Tim and Sid episode last night. Sid just ripped into Maple Leaf fans telling them the Leafs has won nothing. They haven't won a playoff series since 2004 and they won't win one this year.
