It is media access day as the team cleans out the locker room and players and coaches meet with the media. Lots of stuff being said, but this news is noteworthy for the many of us who have liked what we have seen from Juulsen (pre-injury) and only wish him the best and full recovery from his scary facial injury this season.

Some great excerpts from an article/interview with Joel Bouchard on coaching millennials. The difference since Lefebvre is night and day. We will see those results at some point.

Some news on Czech defender Sklenicka who just completed his first season in North America, spending the whole time with Laval. He now suits up for his country at the Worlds. For next year, he looks to be back completing his second year of his two year deal. He is still only 22 years old and plays LHD.

Ya never know. The fact he's getting to play for his national team speaks well of him.

We need a new Beer League affiliate for McCarron and Shinkaruk.

This will be much more Laval news than Habs news, as he is likely going to be spending next season in the AHL.
He was the Rocket's top scorer and All Star game representative. Nice reward to see him get an NHL deal out of last year's AHL deal. The Rocket will need veteran leaders to mentor the young new recruits.

Habs lock up the Rocket captain and leader for another year. Solid moves to bring back the veteran leadership for this young team.

Habs lock up the Rocket captain and leader for another year. Solid moves to bring back the veteran leadership for this young team. I'm a little surprised he signed so quickly. He's been quite clear about wanting an NHL job, and there are probably at least a couple of teams who could have used him. But I guess he really didn't have too many options to force Bergevin's hand. Or maybe he figured that barring any future additions he's an injury or two away from being back in the NHL. It will be interesting to see if he clears waivers once training camp ends. If those injuries hit somebody else's blueline he's a pretty good stop-gap measure for teams looking for a cheap short-term filler.

He has been quite open about still wanting another shot at an NHL job.

It is a good strategy to make it priority to keep veteran team leader types in Laval, in particular when they are high end performers in the AHL.
Ouellet probably feels his chances in Montreal are reasonably good since the left side is not strong. And there is no guarantee that Reilly and/or Benn are returning.
Another factor that probably helped Ouellet decide relatively early was the fact that Molson and Bergevin elected to respect him from an economic perspective. Apparently the deal guarantees him $400,000 even if he never plays a game for the Habs in 2019-20. This is a solid approach to keeping the right veteran tweeners. It also has the the secondary effect of making more than a few clubs unlikely to claim him as he passes through waivers.

They are bringing back the 24 year old Latvian forward on another one year AHL deal. Good to fill up some depth spots with AHL rather than NHL deals.

Bouchard has known him for years and likes him. As you say, NW, it is nice to have some 'older' guys who can get the job done in the A without using up an NHL contract.

I think Fleury did a great job seizing an opportunity. He could surprise and steal a spot, but I suspect he'll be back in Laval and be a first call up player. Vejdemo seems more like an AHLer to me, but you never know. I don't know what they're going to do with Mac. Despite the increasing amount of speed in the NHL game, I still think he can be a Brian Boyle type of player. His resurgence under Bouchard provides hope. I still firmly believe that, despite his solid first pro season, it was mgt and Lefebvre's intent to turn him into a goon. He can play physical but, like Komisarek, he's not a fighter. He's an RFA. Contract limits being what they are, it will be interesting to see what they do.

Contract limits being what they are, it will be interesting to see what they do. On Fleury, I have no problem with him getting another year under Bouchard. After Weber and Petry, you also have young guns Juulsen (who should get the edge if healthy) and newbie but high flyer Brook, in addition to whatever depth sticks with the Habs. I think you are right on Vejdemo. He did improve this season, but likely could suffer the fate of too many other young forwards coming up the ranks with greater upside. I am still cheering for him to get a shot though. McCarron was great in December. Bouchard finally got him playing the right role the right way. Undo the Lefebvre years. Too bad he got injured in practice. He has worked on skating finally. He will never be a speedster, but he has a good stride once moving. He just needs better edgework and those quicker first steps. I have not thrown in the towel. I saw a tweet that his agent and Berg will be talking at the draft.

Olofsson re-signed for one year at league minimum. It looks like he makes $235,000 in Laval. No problem.
I have a feeling this season could be the last tango for him in the Canadiens organization. After all, he has managed to play 2 games for the Rocket since he was acquired in exchange for Will Bitten.

More goalie depth, bringing LaCouvee back. Likely sees mainly ECHL time with Primeau and McNiven signed, but he held his own with the Rocket last season.

After all, he has managed to play 2 games for the Rocket since he was acquired in exchange for Will Bitten. Durability has been a chronic issue. No idea yet how good he can be yet. Due to his injury history, I was not sure they would give him an offer. More contracts gone with no lineup changes yet. The real idea of the potential roster is July 3rd or so after any possible draft moves and the first few days of UFA drunken frenzy.

As expected, Shinkaruk, Audette and Lernout did not get their qualifying offers, and will become UFAs on July 1st.
