One of Bouchard's kids gets a contract. He looked good in an energy/pk role last night. Hounded Caps defenders all night.

He's earned it. And still just 19. He showed some real smarts for that age.

He's earned it. And still just 19. He showed some real smarts for that age. Kid can wheel and he's relentless. Combine that with some smarts and you've got potential. Bit of a late bloomer. May have benefited from playing with Alain and Barre-Boulet. We'll see how he fairs this year. He can't play in Laval until March.

Two goals for Brook tonight as they scramble back from a 3-0 deficit led by the captain.

... didn't want to open another thread for this one ... ... Connor Crisp calling it a career ...

Tough news Dis, but took a lot of courage to choose a long and happy life away from playing. Most his age, and older, would have continued to hold on.

It's a real shame when stuff like this happens ... I didn't follow Connor Crisp's career very closely but maybe a bit closer than some of the other prospects ... my brother-in-law used to watch him play in Sudbury and he liked what Crisp brought to the team ... Crisp could duke it out in junior well enough, but I don't know how effective a pugilist he was at the pro level ... on another note, he owns and operates Connor Crisp's Elite Hockey Training, which offers team practice sessions, semi-private/private lessons and hockey camps ... he's still active and that's a good thing ... Cheers.

Some good performances a couple of nights ago. CHL regular season is underway. Over in Europe, Olofsson is injured. No idea what his scheduled return is.

Nick Suzuki with the natural hat trick, but they still lost 4-3 to the 67s.
Here are the goals.

Fleury signed today, so I assume that means management thinks Bouchard can help a kid who is physically ready to take the next step. I like it.

I think Brook showed that he is still ahead of Fleury on the depth chart at camp, but Cale’s early birthdate does mean the Habs can slide his entry level deal into four years and also get him adapting to the faster more physical pro game. He plays a more physical style of game than Brook. I felt this was coming after moving Valiev and Taormina for Kulak.

Jacob Olofsson returned from a minor injury into the lineup yesterday. After being held without any points in his first two SHL games, he managed a couple of assists yesterday for his first SHL points. I do want to see his offensive game develop this season to round out his game.
Assist #2. He is #38 in white. Nice movement and passing vision.

Josh Brook is off to a good start this season, building off a good camp and new ELC. The question is can he keep it going? He is on Team Canada’s radar for the WJC and given that the WJC head coach is his Moose Jaw head coach, the brass can keep pretty good tabs on him. This will be important as he missed the summer showcase and camp due to injury.

They'll be very solid up front when Poehling shows up. My only concern is the D. However, I'm relieved that Weber will be back.

Ylonen with his third goal of the year, after being snake bitten for a number of games. Speed and going hard to the net pays dividends.
Romanov with his first pro point, an assist, against crosstown rivals Dynamo.

Speaking of Finns, how's Ikonen doing? Still recovering from injury (and surgery I believe). The earliest I have heard he will be back is in mid December. Does put his place on the Finnish WJC team at risk a bit.

It would be interesting to get the full story on his draft. I was certainly disappointed that we expended that early a 2nd rounder on a guy who most services had rated quite a bit lower. Not that I didn't want him, just thought he'd be available with a late 2nd round pick or early 3rd round pick.
Now the consensus of the general scouting services isn't necessarily right (we've seen numerous examples of that, both positive and negative). Timmins said that there were other teams interested in Romanov and he (Timmins) didn't think he'd be available late in the 2nd. He could be right and I'd love to know which team(s) and more of the background to that.

He could be right and I'd love to know which team(s) and more of the background to that. I have wondered about all that too. We still had three second round picks left at that point, only having used up one on Ylonen and not yet traded the Washington second rounder to get two picks. TT has used that line before about knowing other teams were after a guy. I know he did it with Lernout. I guess the scouts know who is at the games and who teams are spending a fair bit of time watching, but their draft boards may look very different than ours. So there could have been teams really interested in Romanov, but did they have him ahead of who they picked with their second round pick? We will never really know that one. Anyway, making CSKA's KHL squad as an 18 year old does indicate that some of the scouting services likely had him too low for sure. In the end, it really won't matter where he is drafted if he can develop into an effective NHLer down the road. And yes, I was miffed at the draft that we went with him that early. It was a case of drafting for position as TT mentioned a bunch of LHD on their draft board were picked before that pick.

It was a case of drafting for position as TT mentioned a bunch of LHD on their draft board were picked before that pick. That's concerning too, in relation to any plan that management has or doesn't have. I get the impression, far too often, that the team's actions are based on fan criticism. Berg was criticized for 'never getting that centre the team needs so much" and suddenly the team starts drafting centres like they're the flavour of the month and trading for wingers they try to stuff into a centre hole. More recently the discussion turned to the lack of LHD in the pipeline and voila', LHD's are the latest and greatest, to the point where we may have drafted a guy sooner than we should have and missed out on someone we could have picked sooner. It just seems too much like 'seat of the pants' management to me. Who is running the team, Bergevin or the fans? I think we'd do a better job, but there's a huge lag between fans seeing a weakness and Berg acting on it. He should be anticipating, looking at depth charts and drafting accordingly. Centres and defense should always be priorities because of the positions and ice time they take up.
