Just watched Matt D'Agostini play against Siarhei Kostitsyn and Guelph smoked London 7-1 with D'Agostini picking up 5 points. 2 +3, with one of his goals, a SH and his 2nd goal was a wicked wrist shot up high. He was a +3 with 2 pims.
Now has 8+16 in 12 games, a +12 and 12 pims, which puts him tied for 3rd in the OHL in scoring, with Kostitsyn tied for 2nd. No pts for Kostitsyn but he did have a big hit in the 2nd and made a nice dive to breakup a 2 on 1 while he was on the point on the PP.

Question for you OHL/WHL/QJMHL specialist: how do CHL playoffs compare to the regular season and to pro hockey? We all know that junior regular season stats don't translate necessarily to anything in pro. Is there a better correlation in playoffs? Is CHL playoff hockey a better indication for one's potential pro career?

Question for you OHL/WHL/QJMHL specialist: how do CHL playoffs compare to the regular season and to pro hockey? We all know that junior regular season stats don't translate necessarily to anything in pro. Is there a better correlation in playoffs? Is CHL playoff hockey a better indication for one's potential pro career? I don't think so personally since your still playing against 16-20 year olds (with a core of 17-19 year olds) I mean it's always good to see a young player step up his game when it matters most but just look at Duncan Milroy who was lights out in the playoffs and Memorial Cup (something like 37 pts) but he's struggled to find his game in the AHL. I think it's great to see Kostitsyn and D'Agostini playing well, putting up impressive numbers but stats can be misleading and the real test for CHLers comes at the pro level imo. On the other hand a guy like Greg Stewart has been held goal less but might turn out to be a solid AHLer cause he works hard, has speed, plays physical. I've always tried not to get carried away with stats especially from the CHL since they are usually playing against guys their age or younger for the most part. In the AHL they are usually playing against older players who usually have some sort of experience at the NHL level, so they have a taste for it (plus the money, I mean making 50K in the AHL vs 500K in the NHL I would think is a factor) Either way it's good to see and hopefully they build off this for the future.

D'Agostini follows up Kosty Junior's player of the week award with one of his own this past week in the OHL. His five point game and a few other multi pointers sure helped the cause as he now has 27 points and is in a three way tie with Kosty for second in OHL playoff scoring. www.ontariohockeyleague.com/news/?id=1953
