Saw Stewart for a few minutes in the Mem cup. A big boy who can skate. I was quite pleasantly surprised at his speed. He hit a few people and scored a bit too. A project, but one worth investing in.

I did read in a recent HF interview with Stewart that he prides himself in his conditioning. I also read in a local Peterborough paper last year a quote from his coach talking about his constant hard work. This guy brings it and that makes the grade with Gainey, who seems to find a way to get guys like Murray, Lapierre and Ferland into the game. Stewart may never reach that level, or maybe he might, but at least he brings the right attitude and work ethic that those others have used to see varying degree of success as young checking/energy guys with the Habs/Dogs.
As for Lacasse, I am shocked. His numbers have been quite bad while compared to other goalies in the league. I guess management sees something in his game that those of us who only get rare glimpses missed. I wonder if this has any bearing on what the Habs might do with Michaud this upcoming season, as his contract is up and it looks like Danis and Halak will be the tandem in Hamilton barring any changes with the big club duo over the summer.
This is the start of the signing season, as Gainey is likely not done yet on the prospect contract front (Aubin? Euros?). I also wonder if he will be bringing guys like Tardif and Melanson back to camp this year after they had pretty good years and really good playoffs (including exposure to the Memorial Cup).

I'm sure Rollie Melanson sees a coachable kid in Lacasse. He's big and doesn't shy away from the rough stuff if it finds him. Good signing.
