I remember watching the '76 finals in my room, all by myself because I didn't want anyone around me if they'd lost ... there were a lot of Habs/Leafs fans in the neighbourhood, with a sprinkling of Original 6 fans in there ... I'd already been following the Habs since the late 60's and dad always liked whichever team Frank Mahovlich played for ... mom was hardcore Leafs ... good times, man ...
Cheers.

Sportsnet showed Game 4 yesterday. It was the 44th anniversary. I can remember this great game, I was 12 years old and all we knew was hockey. We played hockey at school, after school, weekends, etc.. Collected the cards, autographs, etc....
Watching this game different than I did at the time. When I was 12 it was more emotion. Now, more analytical and statistic. Flyers had a good team. The Barber/Clarke/Leach line was outstanding. Dryden made some big saves in 2nd period. Cournoyer scored with 11 seconds left in 2nd period to give us a big lift. But it was a goal Stephenson should have made. I think we got a bit of a break when Parent was injured. Flyers likely would have got a game, maybe two if he had played.
In the first period alone Bowman had 16 different line combinations. When Cournoyer scored he was playing with Lemaire and Lambert. Roberts shadowing Leach, he was trying his best but Leach was owning him. Can see why now Roberts was shortly traded. Back then I could never understand why. Chartraw took a few shifts this game. Nyrop if he hadn't taken a couple of seasons off likely would have been a #2 NHL defenseman. He played well, he was just evolving into a steady NHL defenseman. Lafleur was flying. Seemed like a man possessed to win.
