An excellent haul for Tallon. Gets two expiring contracts that he can flip for more assets, and clears a chunk of space for what people expect to be offers to both Panarin and Bobrovsky.

My only concern if I was a Florida fan is that the Panthers have very little depth and getting picks for real players does not make the Panthers a better hockey team. And the idea for a team that draws less than 10,000 fans a night and possesses a really nice core in their prime should be to win now. I get it that Tallon may want to take a run at Panarin and Bobrovsky, but he already has two goalies with term on their deals costing the club about $8 million annually and Panarin will receive deals from other big budget East Coast clubs like the Rangers and the Flyers. Lower taxes, sun, and the beach are nice but I remain skeptical about Florida's ownership.

The 'yotes took Bolland's contract, and that's up this year. Reimer's another issue.

He had the MCL issue early in the season and he is certainly not having a good season, but Luongo is a proud man and I am not so sure that he would want to find a doctor who would make a creative preemptive diagnosis like early onset chronic arthritis. Plus, he is 19 wins away from 500 (and who knows, in his estimation he may also think he can still catch Roy for second all time) so that probably factors in there too.
Buying out either guy is complicated for their cap if the idea is to bring in an even richer contract (Bobrovsky) to play goalie. I think that Tallon would have to part with some assets to make Luongo and/or Reimer go away.

Despite a cap hit of more than $5 million for three more years after this, his salary actually drops to $1.6m, $1m and $1m. The problem is his ntc/nmc. He's settled in Miami. I'd be absolutely shocked if he waived it. He could retire. It would sting the Panthers a bit, but absolutely hammer the Canucks.

Thanks, blny. That is interesting to think about Vancouver's interests in all of this. I mildly like all of the Western Canadian clubs and I think the Canucks probably do not have much to worry about.
Luongo played last night and he is a leader on the club and in the community. It is impossible to know the future, but I just don't see him retiring. My sense is that he has important milestones to hit and if Tallon does not want him around then he will have to trade him or buy him out.
