I guess the commute for our prospects going between the AHL and ECHL just got a little shorter as the Habs and Bulldogs have announced an affiliation with the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL. With the ownership change and coach/GM change in Long Beach and with the costs of moving players back and forth, there was some talk that a move could be forthcoming. This team returns to the ECHL after a two year hiatus. I guess for guys like Urquhart and Bonneau, gone are the days of playing in the sun and surf...and welcome to the Land of Les Nesman. More motivation to make the Dogs this season! echl.com/cgi-bin/mpublic.cgi?action=show_news&cat=1&id=8225

It is Cleveland and not the aforementioned Cincinnati. Okay then, Cinci does suck after all, except that new hot farm team of the Bulldogs. Will the players be the new toasts of the town? I know it's not Hockeyville USA, but they do like hockey there right? The river is on fire in Cleveland? That can't be a good thing, right?

Cory Urquhart continues to find the back of the net and leads the team in goals and points after 9 games with 8 markers and 2 helpers for 10 points. He is only three goals back of the league leader who has 11. Two pro seasons and only two games in Hamilton to show for it is not the start he likely wanted. Expectations were a lot higher for a guy who was chosen 40th overall in a deep and talented 2003 draft. Knocking some of the guys out of a roster spot in Hamilton could be tough this year for Cory even with good play down in the ECHL.

With Kostitsyn being called up by the big team maybe it's time to give Urquhart a shot. There's a lot of Hamilton fans that would probably gladly trade the Cory they currently have for this one.

While I'd trade the Corey the Bulldogs currently have for 10 pounds of hockey tape, I've never been impressed with what Corey Urquhart has shown in his brief time in Hamilton. Though admittedly, the only thing I've really ever seen him do in Hamilton is sit in the press box.
If nothing else, I would hope Andrei Kostitsyn's call-up will mean ice time for Michael Lambert, who was off to a very strong start before being squeezed out by the numbers game.

On the same night that the Dogs score a season high 8 in a big win, the Cyclones also pile up the goals with their season high 7 tallies in a big 7-2 win that gets them into second place in their division, just one point out of first.
Cedric Desjardins gets the win, Jimmy "Bing Bang" Bonneau had a goal and an assist and was awarded second star, Greg Stewart had a helper, and Cory Urquhart had his team leading 14th goal. Jon Gleed was held off the scoresheet tonight.

Aubin with two helpers in a 3-2 OT loss, so he now has a seven game points streak going on down in Cincy. The Dogs just ran out of roster room for this twenty year old, so at least he is getting lots of ice time and doing the most of it from all reports. Urquhart with a point as well last night.

Good to hear that the lower tier kids are pressing to move up. That's all one can realistically ask.

Mr Urquhart seems to be making the most of his time down in the ECHL as he had another big night last night in the Cyclones 5-2 win. Cory had a four point night with his 15th of the season and three helpers. Jon Gleed had a great night as well with two goals. Desjardins got the win.

Urquhart scores in a shootout to lead Cincy to a win that gets them into first in their division. Cory now has 18 goals and 31 points to rank tops on the team and also 14th in the league. Next step is cracking the Dogs roster before his contract runs out.

It was the Cedric Desjardins show last night as he led Cincy to a 1-0 win. It was his ECHL leading 4th shutout of the year and he carries some good momentum leading to his first pro all-star appearance as Cincy's only representative at the ECHL all-star game. It will be broadcast on the NHL Network on January 17th. Mathieu Aubin scored the only goal of the game, to carry on his good rookie season as well. Cory "the newfound sniper" Urquhart was held pointless. www.cycloneshockey.com/news_data.php?article=00117Given all the goaltending success this organization is enjoying right now, the Montreal and Hamilton camps could be incredibly exciting next year. I know it is a long way off and lots can happen, but both Carey Price and Cedric Desjardins will be pushing Halak and Danis if all stays the same. Not to mention the Hamiton guys and Price pushing the guys in Montreal. A nice problem to have! It really makes you wonder why the Habs used up a roster spot on overager Loic Lacasse who has now been bounced by Saint Patrick and is playing in the OHL, albeit a lot more successfully than in the Q the last few seasons. There should not be any room at any of the inns for an underperforming goalie next season.

We need that kind of depth. We absolutely need a franchise goalie and the more our numbers, the better chance we have of finding and keeping that great one. It's also very important to keep pushing, as you said, the guys in front.
