I am not quite sure what to make of this. Niskanen is the more offensively talented of the two and he has an extra year of term left on his contract. The Capitals are probably trying to save dollars in order not to decimate the bottom six of their forward corps.
I think the Flyers could still be interested in bringing in another right d-man.
