I could live with that money but the term is scary for a guy with his injury history.

Very risky deal for San Jose. But if the Sharks can hoist the Cup then it will not matter a whole lot if injuries plague portions of the remainder of Karlsson's career.
I wonder if Doug Wilson wants to keep the whole gang together, including Thornton and Pavelski? Money will be tight.
Maybe Bergevin should try to offer sheet Timo Meier.

McKenzie now reporting it could be as much as $11.5 million per. No official announcement from Sharks yet. I think they'll live to regret it. He lost a step with the ankle repair. Who knows what he'll be like after the groin repair - those things tend to be permanent afflictions once they crop up. Excluding Karlsson, they have $30 million committed to Burns, Vlasic, Couture and Kane. They need to sign, or replace, Pavelski. And Thornton. Labanc and Meier are RFAs and will require significant raises. Which Martin Jones will they get in goal? He's getting paid $5.75 million a year. He rebounded some in the playoffs, but spent much of the season looking like a backup goalie. $30 million, $5.75 for Jones, call it a $7 million x 3 year deal for Pavelski, Meier is going to take about $6 million x 6 years to sign, Labanc something very close, and a "what's leftover" for Joe if he decides to play another year. That's more than $54 million. Dell, Hertl, M. Karlsson, Sorenson, Braun and Dillion represent another $18.2 million. That's $73 million. They have to sign/replace Donskoi, Nyqvist, etc. This all puts them on the verge of cap hell and tied to a lot of guys 30 or over. I'm sitting here wondering if there's an older team in the league ... www.capfriendly.com/teams/sharks

Well he certainly didn't give them a home-town discount, now did he?

Rats. No elite guys left other than Panarin who definitely isn't signing here. That kind of throws a wrench in 'the Plan'. Offer sheet, anyone?

I still wouldn't have necessarily done the deal, but I don't regret the contract that came with him.

Let this be the...8,976,478 example of the *if x team makes a good offer" bull puck declarations.
These players only interest is their own pockets and fans need to take the exact same attitude. "Build a winner or boycott"....yeah, right. Like it's going to happen in Montreal.....

Not surprised San Jose wanted him back. My hope was that he just wanted to come back East, but let's be honest. It's hard to beat the California lifestyle and if you have a lot of money the Bay Area is a fabulous place to live.
Plus the Sharks are good. Karlsson probably saw the Blues hoist the Cup and figured that could have been San Jose had they not been decimated by injuries at the worst time.

Some reports indicate the cap may not hit the expected $83 million. VGK is over that number now because of Clarkson's contract. Yah, that contract. The Sharks will be in real trouble after they sign key RFAs. They can let Thornton walk, but a replacement won't be any cheaper.

Their two key ones, to me, are Couture and Pavelski. Couture is 30 and Pavelski will be 35 in July. Thornton is done, so that's a lot of centre ice talent that is not being replaced. They could be the next Nashville Predators with a great defense and no scoring. Hertl's there, I guess, but that's one replacing 3 (in due course).

Some reports indicate the cap may not hit the expected $83 million. $82 might even be a stretch. keep Clarkson on IR I guess. Karlsson's going to want a payday. plus they need to sign another 4 roster players $26.5 in d-men, to 23-24

It's amazing have a little news about wanting to come back east made the Sharks throw out the offer Karlsson wanted. Lets face it, he has wanted more money than Doughty since the beginning.
