I think so too, Dis. I believe Trouba really wanted to go to a US team. From the price paid, I'm guessing we could have gotten him for our 15th overall, without adding anything else. The trouble is that you're only guaranteed one year and then he's a UFA. Do you take the risk you can re-sign him? You could pay him what Weber's earning, if you want to move Weber. I'd suspect he's a difficult contract negotiator though.

You can't give up a first for a rental at this point in the season.
If Trouba wasn't ready to sign.....pass.

Definitely cheap. Trouba was holding many of the cards. He'd been a malcontent off and on. Jets wouldn't allow for negotiation before the trade. Apparently Trouba's camp, despite not having a nmc, also held things up by saying they'd only sign with a short list of teams (threatening to hold out). You're simply not going to get good value.

From Frank Seravalli: The Jets also explored packaging Trouba with Mathieu Perreault (No. 22) in a deal to unload the last two years remaining on Perreault's deal. I wonder if Bergevin was in on that?

The Rangers have already stocked their prospect pool the last couple of years so it makes sense for them to spend some pick capital right now.
Pionk is a smooth skater with plenty of offensive skill. That end to end goal he scored against the Habs was crazy. He is not a strong defensive blueliner but the Jets see him as a viable second pair guy. The thing that really helps Winnipeg is that they have at least three years of control.

I wonder if Bergevin was in on that? I asked Bergy's mirror and it told me he's in on EVERYTHING. The more I learn about Trouba, the more it appears that he's in it for the money. Now, I have no problem with that, except that odds are those kinds of players are also the kind that land up with massive contract and mediocre results. Were down to two FA defensman, of which Myers i likely to resign and lefty Gardner is going to get money thrown at him. But hey, Bergy's mirror claims he's in and trying really, really hard.....
