Perry is a proud guy and the competitor inside him probably wants to prove he can still play. I expect a few clubs are calling to see what his pretensions are economically.
He really fell off a cliff around age 32 and I doubt he can be more than a shell of the player he once was. Hopefully Babcock can cajole his boss into signing him.

He also coming off a serious knee injury & missed almost 6 months of playing time.
He's been a steady 50 point guy for the 4 seasons before the injury. FWIW, Ray Ferraro thinks he has something to prove & could score around 15 goals. If he adjusts his $ expectations, maybe he's worth a look on a short term deal.

It would be a hard experiment to be wrong about … but my mind immediately goes to Perry on the right side of Kotkaniemi

Perry is a big body but he is not a missing piece. The Habs already have a surplus of third line winger types so the thought/decision process would have to include the benefit-cost of putting Perry on the ice over someone else.
I doubt anyone would pay Perry $4 million per because Anaheim was just shopping him and no doubt offering to retain 50 percent of his cap hit (which would have been a hair over $4 million) and no one bit. I think that the best Perry could hope for would be something like 2 years/$5 million.
I just don't think Montreal is great fit.
