theScore reporting Leafs are investigating a trade for PK Subban to see if they could fit him under the cap without Marner
Subban pkg for Marner pkg? Wouldn't that be interesting. Would kill me to see him in their colors or part of a possible cup winner there

As much as I like Subban, the Predators would have to add to get Marner. The other thing here is Babcock. I think he's got a blind spot where Subban is concerned. He bowed to pressure when Subban was picked for the Olympic team & then played him only one time. And he wasn't selected for the World Cup roster, IIRC.

Balancing the skills and positions requires a small adjustment (Nashville adding a bit, but age wise the premium goes way up. Interesting thought, though. Leafs defense would improve a lot and Nashville would finally have that elite forward they need. I can see Dubas considering if he thinks there's a real danger of an offer sheet. And Dubas hasn't worried about what Babcock thinks of his moves either. He kept Sparks over McElhenny despite Babcock's position on the two. Babcock was right in that instance. I bet CAP was part of the matter as well as Dubas hoping Sparks would continue to improve

I would hate to see Subban play for the Leafs. And with his penchant for producing big in the playoffs, it would worry me that they get out of the first round next spring.
Of course, even if there was a mutual interest, it would be really complicated because for various reasons.
Marner is worth way more than Subban due to one guy being 21 years old and the other 30. So Poile would have to add quite a bit to make this thing work. The Leafs have basically nothing at left wing on their roster/in their system, thus Tolvanen could be valued by Dubas and the Finn should be ready to make the jump this season. Even together I believe Subban and Tolvanen would probably not satisfy the Leafs' pretensions. The landscape is also tricky because of the fact that Toronto is in real bad against the cap and Nashville is up there pretty tight too, so basically in cap terms no one gets a whole lot of relief. And last but not least both teams are seriously in win-now mode so Toronto would not want picks to represent much of the asset make-weight that Nashville would need to add.

Marleau was traded to Carolina so Leafs are making space.

Depends on what the picks are like. Those two players are certainly not special in any way, shape, or form.

Nashville is no doubt the favorite to land Matt Duchene now.....

For sure, Bergevin will probably give Brisson a call tomorrow. But Duchene will end up in Nashville.

The picks are both second rounders (the #34 today and the other in 2020).

I finally took down my framed PK Subban Habs photo and replaced it with a 1980-81 Kingston Canadians team picture ... and wouldn't you know it, I just found another spot for PK's photo ... go figure ... as always, I wish him luck in Jersey ... Cheers.

PK Subban to NJ Devils ... for Steven Santini, Jeremy Davies, and two second-round draft picks. Cheers. Ouch. 2 2nd rounders, a prospect from the lower rounds and a youngish player with nothing special to his name. This actually makes Berg look good, IMO.

Well cap space (Duchene) can be logically added to the equation if he does in fact sign. I have a feeling theres a wink and a nudge deal in place

I should have thought of that, since I've been saying for years that cap space is an asset.

Listening to TSN on this and they're lauding Nashville for taking $9 million off their cap space ...
Cheers.

Jersey probably buy him out. Or trade an asset to another team to take on that contract.

Not sure, I follow PK on Instagram and he is working out like a banshee, he has even had workouts with The Rock. He looks in tip top shape and bigger than I've ever seen. He's also engaged to Lindsey Vonn and she's a workout machine as well.
He has to end his career in a Montreal Jersey though...

Who needs a guy driven to win? If his attitude is bad in the dressing room I’d look at just who exactly he’s bothering and perhaps that guy has the wrong attitude.

We know PK is loud and boisterous and the hockey mentality is the complete opposite... it's no wonder the NBA (who would love a PK personality) is leaps and bounds ahead of the NHL (stoic/platitudes type personality)... it's also interesting how he is fine for NHL corporate as well.
