Interesting. So despite the statements of the experts, 36 year old Spezza is Kadri's replacement.
After the playoff meltdown again this year, Kadri had to go. IMO, Barrie is an upgrade for the D man that left Toronto today.
Reading the comments. Leaf fans as usual proclaim this a huge win for their side.

I think Kardi and Barrie are a wash. Kadri has 3 years left at $4.5 million. He'll be 29 at the start of the season. Barrie has one year left, and will be 28 in July. Avs eating half his cap hit. Kerfoot is better than Rosen. Avs get a 3 round upgrade. I think the Leafs did win the deal in that in the present they get more. But, Barrie is a UFA next Summer. I think they're in the same boat they were with Gardiner, and Reilly will command a huge raise.

A good deal for both teams ... I think Tyson Barrie might have become expendable when Cale Makar came on the scene ... the knock on Toronto last year was their lack of D ... acquiring Barrie gives them a 1st-pairing d-man who should be teamed with Morgan Reilly ... Toronto's PP just got another bullet from the point ... Nazem Kadri goes to a team that needs secondary scoring and I think he'll do just fine playing second fiddle behind Nathan McKinnon ...
Cheers.

Some good work by Dubas this summer. Cleared up cap space for Marner, signed Kapanen and Johnsson to reasonable contracts, got that RHD that the Leafs needed so badly and all without really doing any damage to the core. If Andersen gets his playoff act together, this Leafs team is likely to make the ECF. Pretty solid. Gave up a first rounder to get it all done, but that's going to be 25-30, so pretty cheap IMO.

Good shuffling by the Leafs to rig together a half-way decent d-corps for 2019-20.
Given how little the cap is expected to rise for 2020-21, next summer is going to be another difficult one for Dubas because Muzzin, Barrie, and Ceci are unlikely to be looking for pay cuts as their UFA outcome. The Leafs really need one of those Swedish kids to be top four ready by 2020-21 or things will remain complicated.

And we traded two wingers for non first round draft choices and signed a back up goalie. Pretty well equal, right? Hey, I'm all for a slow build up, but Price and Weber have made it be known they can't wait for future success. Price should age ok, but Weber and Thompson are getting old and if Berg wants to win now, he needs to do more than produce a wiffle offer sheet. I'll be shocked if Carolina doesn't match. Amazed, ecstatic, but shocked.

Despite what we think of Kadri, the guy can play. Before Tavares got there & his role changed, he had back to back 30 goal seasons. His replacement is an over the hill Spezza. And he has no long term fix for his D. Muzzin & Barrie are UFA in a year & Ceci will be looking for a new deal. The big issue, Marner, isn't close to being resolved.

Or if we do, it's going to be in one of those assisted living scooters...... &^%$#%^&^%$ I do understand the concern, old friend, yes ... I've been in various stages of discouragement since 1994 ... still, I'll be honest with you, man ... I don't see a Cup for a few years, yet ... I think we're going to have to be patient until these youngsters mature and develop, because that's where I see a Cup coming from ... on another note, what I'm kind of disappointed in was finding out that both Matt Duchene and Anders Lee had already made up their minds not to play in Montreal, yet the press was continually promoting how these two were on Marc Bergevin's radar ... I remember hockey in the 70s the best but I don't remember the press being as reckless as they are now ... no way, but you know what; they sure as heck generated a lot of dialog in cyberspace ... not sure that's a good thing or not ... depends on your point of view ... anyway, Tyson Barrie ... now, I don't know what the Avs would have wanted for him, but that would have been a great acquisition ... he'd be on the top pairing with Shea Weber just as soon as he got there ... Cheers.

Dis,
From sports to politics....
The press has abandon it's fundamantal reason for it's existence. It's now in survival mode partisan propaganda and sensational headline click baiting. Maybe that's better then the old, more subtle bias. Unfortunately, that wont help if the "truth" is nothing more then seeking confirmation bias and tribal groupthink.
As for the Habs...
Even when i try to put the cynisism away, the empirical facts before us point to a "business first" management. While it's a necessary evil for the survival of the franchise, it is not and will never be the winning and cup mantra we grew up and old with. Unfortunatly, current ownership has yet to realize that a bit less businees can be sacrificed for the greater dreams.
Until further notice....Our Lion Of Winter heros and our unquestioned devotion has to be re-graded into band wagon hope and less attachement.

I find the media often has an active part in developing and feeding that "tribal groupthink" ... I'm not a businessman, HA, but I do understand your point, yes ... I'm guessing Geoff Molson would have had a say in signing off on the $21 million bonus over the first year ... that's serious money and he wasn't afraid to spend it ... For our generation, absolutely ... we've seen the glory years and our share of Cups ... we've seen what it's like to win Cups and to lose a Cup ... but there's an entirely new generation out there that haven't even had a whiff at a Cup in their lives ... none of them have ever lived it and that's created a bit of a division between those who have/haven't ... those who haven't seen a Cup are a lot more forgiving than those who have lived through the history of the team ... we're a lot less tolerant, sure, but most of us have come by it honestly ... Cheers.

Sportsnet is reporting that Kadri turned down a trade to the Flames. Gotta think that Brodie was a piece going other way.

Read something that quoted Kadri on Hockeybuzz (yes, sorry). Kadri said he rejected the Calgary offer because he hoped to stay in Toronto. Guess that strategy didn't work.
