I'm guessing Chris Kreider doesn't start the year as a Ranger.

Well, I think when the Rangers traded for him they knew he was not giving any club in the league a team-friendly discount. But it is not an outlandish contract if you think Trouba is a top pair guy and you get the services of a big play in all situations d-man for his 25-32 age years, and six of those years are UFA years.
Yeah, I agree BC, it would appear that Kreider is the odd man out to fit under the cap unless he is willing to forego free agency and sign on now for a club-friendly extension. I doubt he would take 5 x 5, though if he would then Namestnikov would surely be out. Those d-men like Shattenkirk, Staal, and Smith are basically anchors with negative trade value (I guess at least New York can be grateful all of those deals have relatively little term remaining to suffer through).
