Callahan had a NTC/NMC. Bit surprised he accepted this. He'll likely go back on LTIR. "Rehab" at home in Florida, and pay tax based on living there still. Bolts clear $3.4 million in space. The LTIR insurance pays a big chunk of Callahan's salary, which means that the Sens will actually spend less real dollars in this move.

It is must be the timing on getting the cap relief for LTIR Callahan that forced BriseBois to make a move now. I think these LTIR guys have to be on the opening day roster before the contract disappears off the cap. Tampa must not have felt there was any desirable way to juggle roster pieces and meet that requirement, so they take on Condon who is owed $3 million real dollars and will actually eat $1.3 million of the Bolts' cap space this season even when he is buried in the AHL.

I may be wrong blny, but I think the Bolts save $4.5 (the full 5.8 million cap hit of Callahan minus the $1.3 coming with Condon after he is buried) .
Obviously it would have been better to shed the whole $5.8 million via LTIR but it appears that the way the CBA rules are structured the timing of getting the LTIR relief becomes problematic for clubs with these cap headaches.

Hard to say who is going to get buried. They've got Domingue and McElhinney as well. Perhaps Condon is a flip.

I find the return for solving yet another CAP headache somewhat frivolous. I guess it might save Melnyk some $$ and that seems to be the most important thing to him. What a pathetic owner. I could easily understand all Sens fans just staying home. There's no entertainment value with that team.

How does he find these guys? GM's I mean, who are willing to take on these contracts for little or no Tampa Bay pain.
