Maxwell now has 53 pts in 39 games and sits in fourth, one point behind the league leader. Ryan White is not far off in 6th place. Only Martin Hanzal (Czech Republic) has been off in Sweden for the WJC as far as the WHL leader board is concerned.
On a related note, Mathieu Carle still leads the QMJHL in scoring for defenders with 51 points so far this season.

They have to play well to challenge for a position on the Dogs and then to oust someone on the Varsity squad. Good problem to have.

Ryan White with 1 goal and third star in a 3-2 loss to Swift current. Hitmen outshot the Broncos 50-20. Carey Price with 27 saves on 28 shots against Kamloops (4-1). That's a good win as the Blazers have become a very good team. 2nd star as well. I also think Ben Maxwell is injured. He hasn't been on Kootenay's roster for the last 3 or 4 games. Juraj Mikus with 2 points in a 6-4 loss to Baie Comeau, and 1st star. He's been scoring quite well since the WJC.
Our scouts seem to have done a good job in 06 as well.

Maxwell has an elbow injury, the Habs have flown him out east to get it checked out. No word yet on how bad it is. It's also hard to get a good feel for Cepek since he's on a bad Portland team.

i went to the carey price show again last night here in vancouver. the giants once again outshot tri cities and carey price was the show of the evening. tri cities won 4-2, price had two absolute robberies along with the usual excellent positioning and great puck handling.
in two games against the giants he faced 70 shots (give or take 2 or 3), stopping 67 of them.
even the home crowd was buzzing watching this kid stone the giants, i have to say he's the best junior goalie i've seen period. its hard to scout goalies, but this kid is just unreal, and looks to be nhl ready now.

That's great news Habaroni. I've only really seen him play at the WJC. What I did notice was that he was very sound positionally, very calm demeanor and excellent at handling the puck. He reminds me alot of Luongo, same size and style.

He reminds me alot of Luongo, same size and style. He is big like roberto, but is more sound positionally and stays "between his posts" as i like to say. whereas roberto flops, gets out of position more and challenges more, price is much better at handling the puck too, last night he had a player forechecking in the corner and instead of one of the tri cities d-men rushing to the far corner so price could fire it behind the net to him, they let carey take care of it, a quick little spin move and the forward went flying by and it was right on the tape of the d-man, calm and cool as can be. to quote the redneck on coaches corner: "he's a real beauty" i wore my canadiens hat and when me made the first robbery i was out of my seat, by the third period when he would stone a giants player, i would stand up and take my hat off and show it to everyone in the section behind me, nobody said a thing, they knew they were seeing the future of the habs, and the future couldn't have looked any better.

I watched the game on Sportsnet and concur. He was the difference against the Giants as he usually is whenever Tri City plays anyone. I hate to see what that team will be like next year without him. If they are smart, they cash in on him before the trade deadline. I don't think they will unfortunately...
I'm just hoping that he doesn't get overhyped by the Montreal media and that unrealistic expectations be put on him as was the case with Latendresse. He's still going to need time in the AHL , imo. Even Brodeur had to do time there...

...He's still going to need time in the AHL , imo. Even Brodeur had to do time there... Brodeur played 32 games with Utica and had a GAA of 4.03 and a save % of .884 before making his permament home in New Jersey. Heck, Patrick Roy even played a single AHL game (4.00, .852) before graduating for good. Roy was 20-years old when he joined the Habs, as was Brodeur when he joined the Devils. Price needs to make the jump this season in order to keep pace.

i don't believe either that you need to go to the ahl, goaltending is more about positioning than ever now. he is very fundamentally solid, he never wanders or challenges too much because he takes up so much of the net from the top of the blue paint, no reason to wander any further.
what i really like is that you could take a string from the middle of the net to the puck and it would go right through price's logo, always center.

Carey Price shuts down top team in the WHL, beats Everett 2-0. Game's 2nd star. Tri-city seem to be playing very well these days. 8-2 in their last 10 games. Colton Yellowhorn moving up the scoring race.

He's been playing some good hockey since his return from the WJC. His record for the period between his return and the most recent game against Swift Current is 12-4-1 with a GAA of 2.00 and a .928 Sv%. He's been getting about 30 shots a game on average.

Nice pick to be sure, but I'll reserve judgment until he can first translate junior production to the AHL. I've seen too many junior stars turn out to be rather marginal NHLers. Hate to burst your bubble, but Garth Murray was a pretty good point producer in the Dub.

My first and only chance to see Ryan White this season tonight against the vancouver giants, i'll give a short scouting summary later tonight or tomorrow.
so far i've seen price twice win games by himself basically, and maxwell haven't seen because of injury.

well ryan white had a good game last night, i missed the first period because of work and missed his goal. despite wearing the 'a' he is their captain on the front, a real beauty, amazing vision and hands, will be a good playmaker at any level, not sure if he is big enough for the big time though as he is pretty small.
he reminded me of ryan smyth with his longish hair. good skater, always goes to where the puck is going, not was, and is able to skate with his head up and pass through opponents right on the tape to his wingers.
hard to say if he'll make it all the way to the show, but for the round he was chosen in he's turning into a real gem.

carey price on fire, now sitting in 4th in save % in the whl, and i believe the last 2 months he must be #1 in that category, he gives his team a chance to win every night.

I was thinking more like Aebischer and Halak more recently. Aebischer couldn't have been that bad with Colorado and Halak was playing great with Hamilton...at least good enough that he'd be an average NHL goalie. Soon as that jersey goes on, something changes.
