nah, i think believing in something like that perpetuates it. i'm a positive thinker and for some reason things almost always work out for me. when the going is good in montreal it is the best place to play in, i think price will be the next great canadiens goalie for 7-10 seasons.

I certainly hope so too. If Halak progresses and Price comes into his own, we should have the ability to move one of them for some badly needed help elsewhere.

bob will get the ship on the right path, i think a lot of people have been too hard on him. i wouldn't have done things much different other than maybe moving souray at the deadline as well for 1st round pick and a young d-man/center.
they seem to forget he lost his daughter only a couple of months ago.

Ryan White will not win the WHL scoring title this season and will finish at best fourth overall with 89 pts in 72 games as his regular season is now done. Pretty impressive when you consider he had 53 points last year and his team is all about defense and strong goaltending, so a great regular season for this young man. He and his team now get to wait to meet Kootenay in the first round of the playoffs.
Hopefully Ben Maxwell is back from his long elbow injury in time for the playoffs, as the team is now listing him day to day. His last game was on January 2nd and he was right in the hunt for top spot on the scoring list then too. It would be fun to see the two potential future teammates battling head to head.
It looks like Tri City is resting up Carey Price now that they are playoff bound as he did not start last night or this afternoon.

i still think we should have taken lucic over maxwell, here's nice clip from last night. he leads the vancouver giants in scoring with 68 points, 30G and 147 PIM's, not bad for a 2nd year player who had 5 goals two years ago in Tier 2 Junior A and 9 goals in his rookie season last year. oh yeah, and he can throw them. he's the one with the black jersey. youtube.com/watch?v=aTwUOaXAdnYhere he is fighting 6'5", 245 lbs matt kassian the whl heavyweight champ youtube.com/watch?v=y3Fp45o-zRM

Ryan White was named Hitmen "Player of the Year." There was an article about him in today's paper, applauding him for his improvement offensively, yet still being able to play his "in your face" style of game.

Carey Price on his way to the golf course, down 5-0 against seattle he probably just ran out of gas after facing a barrage almost every night.
so does he come back to bc or to hamilton, or to montreal to take in the atmosphere?

On Monday night, the battle of the prospects ended with both White and Maxwell getting an assist, but Maxwell's Kootenay team won to force a fourth and deciding game Wednesday night in Calgary. One guy moves on, the other packs up his gear for the last time this season.

Correct, it is the 7th and deciding game, and it is actually in Cranbrook, not Calgary...so I really was asleep when writing that!! The rumour is that the Habs are negotiating and the final details of a signing bonus is what remains. If that is done, then he likely would end up in Hamilton as they can add juniors/college players to their roster once their seasons are done. Not sure if the Dogs would return Sauve to Providence and finish up with Danis/Price or if they would just let Price suit up and practice/tour with the team. The entire Bulldog goaltending situation is a little unclear as long as a certain Slovakian is still in Montreal, and that is just fine with me!!

What is the "price" for signing Carey now. Do we lose a year of eligibility f we sign now instead of waiting until June/July? As in, will this count for a full year? Or does the 7 years only count for NHL play?

What is the "price" for signing Carey now. Do we lose a year of eligibility f we sign now instead of waiting until June/July? As in, will this count for a full year? Or does the 7 years only count for NHL play? According to the NHL CBA, free agency is based on age plus "accrued seasons" or "years of professional experience". "Accrued seasons" is used in the determination of unrestricted free agency (Section 10.1) and "years of professional experience" is used in the determination of restricted free agency (Section 10.2). Not sure why they use different definitions, but it probably has something to do with lawyers and billable hours ;D. Basically, for unrestricted free agency for current and future rookies, a player requires 7 "accrued seasons" or must be 27 years or older as of June 30 of the League Year in which they would achieve free agency {10.1 (a) (i)}. "Accrued Season" is defined as "any League Year during which a player was on a Club's Active Roster for 40 (30 if the player is a goalie) or more Regular Season Games...." Based on this, Carey Price would not earn an "accrued season" if he plays any NHL games this year or is even on Montreal's roster. Time spent in the AHL does not count towards "accrued season". For restricted free agency for current and future rookies, if the player's age when he first signs an SPC is between 18 and 21, he's eligible for Group 2 restricted free agency after 3 years of "professional experience". If he signs between the ages of 22 and 23 the relevant experience is 2 years. 24 or older requires 1 year. "For the purposes of this Section 10.2(a), a Player aged 18 or 19 earns a year of professional experience by playing ten (10) or more NHL Games in a given NHL Season, and a Player aged 20 or older.....earns a year of professional experience by playing ten (10) or more Professional Games under an SPC in a given League Year. Note that if the player is 20 or older, playing in any professional league may result in "professional experience" whereas if the player is under 20 only NHL games count. In Carey Price's case, he turns 20 on August 16 this year. Therefore, he would require 3 years of "professional experience" before qualifying for restricted free agency. Since Price turns 20 this year, however, games played at any professional level would be considered in determining years of "professional experience". Therefore, if he plays 10 or may games in total in Montreal and/or Hamilton (including playoff games, unlike unrestricted free agency, which only considers regular season games), he would accumulate one year of professional experience, meaning he would qualify for restricted free agency after the 2008-09 season. In summary, if the Habs sign Price now, we don't lose anything on the unrestricted free agency front but if Price played 10 or more games at any professional level (regular season or playoffs) this season we would lose one year on the restricted free agency front.

so sign him, let him go to hamilton, and let him know that he won't play more than 9 games unless he's taken the #1 job with the big club and they're on a playoff run. not very likely, although it would be very difficult to undress him in the ahl playoffs if he was standing on his head wouldn't it.
on second thought maybe sign him and if needed bring him to montreal to backup halak if huet re-injures. you guys probably saw it a lot in the world juniors, but you won't believe how good he is with passing the puck. better than any of our current goaltenders and any goalie probably in the history of the habs.

Ryan White's Calgary Hitmen advance by beating Ben Maxwell's Kootenay Ice 3-2 in game 7 in ben's house.
White got an assist and was a +1 Maxwell with no points and -2 (still think we should have taken lucic)
so white moves on and maxwell either goes home or to hamilton.

3 games in 4 nights finishing up against tough Kootenay and then the start of this series, so they definitely needed the rest and came back strong in that last game.

Hitmen get started again Friday night. I plan to attend most games, and will keep an eye on anyone you guys would like. Just let me know the day before the game is all I ask. Naturally, I'll be reporting on every one of Ryan White's waking moments as well.
edit: that is, of course, when he returns from Habs camp

Cepek named as the Oil Kings top defenseman for the season. Nice credit for his good overall work all season, including getting one of the "A's" later in the season when they traded their original captain at the trade deadline. www.oilkings.ca/hm/inside.php?id=254
