In hockey terms, Gudbranson is more valuable than Martinsen and a 7th. He is a third pair guy who can lay the body and drop the gloves. Of course, the reason he just got traded for basically nothing is that he carries a $4 million cap hit this year and next. In fact, one reasonable take on this trade is that Rutherford did well to move on from him with no retention.

Oh yeah. Gudbranson is another lesser version of Weber. Not as smart defensively, and even more likely to be hemmed in his own end. Worse hands than Weber. And I'm not talking the good Weber. But.....if you need a guy to protect little players, he has some value. Can't recall who the Hab was, but when Gudbranson was with Florida he tossed that guy around like a bean bag. It was soul sucking.

It was soul sucking. If we had a full compliment of youngish top 4, sure, get an ape. But with our old top 2 and a host of tweeners, should not happen.
