Dubas pays a bunch of kids and "I wanna be a laff" lots of money, has to fill in with whatever is left over that he can afford and...surprised at the results?
Worse, two of their overpaid stars don't seem to give a damn.
Laffland going crazy.
Looks good on them.

I remember when he chose Toronto over Buffalo. Leaf fans were ecstatic & lording it over Detroit fans in particular, because he would not go back there.
He should take the next 2 years off at the Leafs expense.

In hindsight (and I even pondered this at the time), I would have traded Matthews. You could have gotten a King's Ransom for him, strengthened the Leafs defence, solved the CAP issues and very likely have a much more balanced team that could still score, but would be much more responsible defensively. That's still possible, of course and should be considered. I'd trade Matthews over Marner purely for my own personal preferences. Matthews, to me, has the feeling of a loser.

I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's something about Austin Matthews that makes me wary of him ... I don't know the guy from Adam, but I'm not sure his commitment level is there ... that said, I'd lean towards moving him out for a few reasons ... first, I think the Leafs would rid themselves of an on/off-again media magnet ... secondly, it would be Kyle Dubas' opportunity to free up much-needed cap space while receiving an impact player in return (+ +) ... IMHO, Matthews would improve their team ... Cheers.
