"...Mais tout ça peut changer dans quelques jours.."
"...But all that can change in a few days..."
Nobody will make me believe that Sean Hill is an untouchable player... Rutherford may just be playing hard to get right now...
Hill/Irbe/O'Neil for Garon/Rivet/Hossa

Rutherford may just be playing hard to get right now... Hill/Irbe/O'Neil for Garon/Rivet/Hossa That is a good deal on the surface. Carolina definately needs goaltending. We'd have to have a load of confidence that J.F. Damphousse or Olivier Michaud are going to be NHL goaltenders. Plus we'd have a few years to find that "second with eyes on starting" goaltender. This or next is going to be Arturs last year (he is 37). The only thing that scares me is if Jose gets injured. Would they take Michaud instead?

Rutherford may just be playing hard to get right now... Hill/Irbe/O'Neil for Garon/Rivet/Hossa I'm at best lukewarm on this trade. First, it leaves the Habs with too many quality RDs and not enough LDs (I wouldn't want to use Dykhuis for another 4 weeks or longer at the expense of Komisarek), and it adds to the age of the Ds (Quintal is 35, Brisebois is 33, and Hill is 34. Rivet is perfectly at home on the left side but none of the other RDs is. Second, Irbe is 37 and can become a UFA, and none of the Hamilton goaltenders appears to be NHL-ready. Third, although O'Neill would be a vast improvement over Hossa and definitely bolster the top 6 Fs, he doesn't come cheap. Still, this is the best part of the proposed trade.

I agree with what you say. But I don't think many would complain if it happened. The greatest risk is losing Garon. I don't think we are that strong in back-up goalies to risk it ..... but to get a true power forward it might be a chance worth the risk.

Even with all the negative stuff that seems to be coming out about O'Neill, I'll take him thank you.

From what I heard today Hill has a no trade and would like to stay in Carolina because his wife is from there. So the habs would probably have to negotiate something or they would be taking a chance on him being a rental player, something Gainey doesn't want.If something could be worked out I'd like to see if the Habs could pull it off without losing Zednik.Adding O'Niell would definitely boost the fire power. If something could be worked out I'd like to see if the Habs could pull it off without losing Zednik. Same here. I know that you have to give to get, but I would rather not have the Habs part ways with Zednik. The Habs are in need of goals and it seems redundant to give up one of our snipers for another one, especially since both O'Neill and Zednik have similar goal scoring potential. I would love if O'Neill became a Hab, but not at the expense of Zednik. IMO, it would be more of a lateral move. As a sidenote on Zednik, one of the guys from the Team 990 said that his sources tell him that Gainey is not a very big fan of Zed. Take it for what it's worth.

Zednik hasn't done a lot lately to endear himself with Gainey. However, he is still an asset.
I'd prefer to acquire Erik Cole. He's a Bulis in terms of skating and energy, but with better scoring ability. He's been playing very well in the past few weeks after a slow start. In addition, he doesn't make as much as O'Neill. Finally, he comes from northern New York State, and Montréal is a lot closer than North Carolina to home.

I'd prefer to acquire Erik Cole. He's a Bulis in terms of skating and energy, but with better scoring ability. I believe the ceiling for both of them has been 16 goals and 40 points in one year. That doesn't represent a whole lot of difference to me, and they were both born in 78. I would say he is more rugged than Bulis, but he has never scored 25 goals in a single season, including the minor pros and college hockey. If you want to get a goal scorer, O'Neill is probably a better choice. But if you want someone a little on the rugged side who can score every once in a while, then Cole would fit the bill.

Don't like this one very much. What do we want Irbe for? Why swap two young, unproven players with potential for a 37 year old back-up goalie and a defensively weak forward who would only be a slight addition to our top 6, while exchanging a 29 year old average d-man for a 34 year old one?
I'm not terribly attached to hossa or rivet, but I think we're just as good without this deal.

HFTO I don't think Hill has a no-trade clause. But I heard somewhere that Rutherford said he would let Hill veto any trade because of all he has done for the franchise these past few years, and because of his family ties. He also said he would extend this courtesy to Wesley. Rutherford is a classy guy if this is true.
