There is nothing wrong with "self negotiations" because the contracts are well established. It just takes a lot of calm and self control in the negotiations process. That's on BOTH sides.
I can imagine how quickly it will deteriorate if Bbinz brings his "take it or leave it" or Markov type who thinks he's top 4.

That is pricey contract for a veteran. But the positive for the Caps is that the deal's term is relatively restrained. They will be done with Backstrom before the Habs move on from Price and Weber.
