Gah....this may be the worst night in the history of sports. Not only do the Leafs beat the Sabres.....we'll never hear the end of it around here...but the Habs lost and there was a theft at Copps Coliseum.
The theft of a game. The Aeros stole one tonight in a shootout. Goaltender Josh Harding was superb capping off an good evening by making a spectacular save off of Lapierre who had an open net for the overtime winner. The goal light went on and people were up and dancing, but I could tell he made a super human effort and just sunk my head into my hands in disbelief.
Dogs outshot Houston 38-22 and played a very, very good game overall. They scored a power play goal which they haven't done in forever. The flip side is that they went 1 for 10 to become a miraculous 2 for their last 52 with the man advantage.
They really played well and deserved two points. It's a shame.
Good: Overall...the team. It was good to watch. Standouts include Ryan O'Byrne who wasn't as good as last night, but put in an excellent effort. Maxim Lapierre, who was named hardest working Bulldog for the 7th time. He failed to stick around for the mandatory post game interview because he was so angry with the shootout loss. It's really nice to see passion like that. When they deserve to win and don't....I want to see them angry. Andrei Kostitsyn, who finally scored his first of the season and set up the second goal with a tape to tape pass played well dispite a couple of giveaways, but the best player on the ice was defenceman Mathieu Roy. Too bad he's an Oiler prospect.
The most disappointing was Yann Danis. During the game he was very good. I couldn't tell if the goals scored on him were stoppable, but I'm positive he was completely screened on the second goal. The shootout, oh...the shootout. Yann was beat by the first three shooters. He never even got a piece of any of them. They didn't need to go to a fourth shooter. Yann was not good in the shootout. He looked like me out there. Play by play man Derek Wills had this to say about Yann during the post game show: "Yann looked about as a comfortable out there as a guy who was just not right." I'm still not quite sure what that means or if it's a coherent and complete sentence, but it's about as accurate as you can get with his shootout performance.
Quite a letdown.
However, 3 games in a row without a regualtion loss is something to feel positibe about. Now that Kostitsyn has cracked the scoreboard, let's hope he can continue.
Omaha next Friday.
