St. Louis Blues defenseman Jay Bouwmeester collapsed on the bench Tuesday night at Honda Center after having a "cardiac episode," the team said.
The incident occurred with 7:50 left in the first period and the game between the Blues and Anaheim Ducks tied at 1-1.
His teammates immediately called for help and medical personnel rushed to him.
The game — which was delayed as the 17-year veteran was treated and concerned players on both sides gathered at center ice — eventually was called off after both teams went to their dressing rooms.
"Due to the medical emergency involving Blues defenseman Jay Bouwmeester, tonight’s game will be postponed and made up at a later date," the Ducks tweeted.

I was looking at his stats the other day. I remember how he was hailed as the next Neidermayer, that never really got anywhere near that. Nevertheless, a decent career.
Anywho.....I hope he has a full and fast recovery.

For a while he was projected to go #1 overall but Columbus wisely chose Rick Nash instead. JB did go third overall to Florida.
Didn't get into a playoff game until he moved to the Blues about 10 years into his career. And he is a favorite of the Team Canada selectors too.

I wonder what specific 'cardiac' issue he faced? Hopefully something simple like arrythmia (if any heart issue can be simple).

Local Midget B hockey game, right before Christmas. 15 year old keels over on the ice. Ref doesn't see what happens, assumes the kid got hurt somehow, but because his team doesn't have possession he doesn't blow the whistle for another minute and a half or so. They get to the kid, and you guessed it, no pulse, not breathing. Already close to two minutes have gone by.
Fortunately luck was on this kid's side that day:
1) An off-duty nurse was in the stands (mother of another kid) and she started CPR. 2) An AED was in the arena. 3) Two off-duty policemen were also in the stands (more parents) and they knew how to use the AED. Which they did. Repeatedly. 4) A fire station was just down the street, and more first responders were on the scene within minutes.
They shocked him multiple times right there on the ice, with his family, friends, and teammates all watching. Because he was on the ice the poor kid was sliding all over the place, so the nurse yelled for somebody to hold his legs while she performed CPR and the policemen used the AED. Which the kid's father did.
The kid's father knelt on the ice, holding the legs of his non-breathing, no-pulse kid still so he wouldn't slide all over the ice while emergency personnel performed CPR and electro-shocks on his son. Can you imagine??
As I said, fortune favored the kid that day, and after three days of being in a medically-induced coma he came to, and appears to have suffered zero side affects. Aside from having a permanent defibillator in his chest now, and not being allowed to play hockey anymore.
You never know. You just never know.

Wow... what a story... hockey becomes irrelevant at that point.

The last time I saw Sergei Zholtok was in the lobby of the Pan Pacific Hotel in Vancouver March 16, 2004 * ... he had recently been traded to Nashville and the Predators were in town to play the Canucks ... he passed later that year on November 3, 2004, of cardiac arrhythmia while playing in the KHL ... fast forward to November 21, 2005, and Jiri Fischer collapses on the bench after going through cardiac arrest and he never played a game after that ... Jay Bouwmeester seems to be on the road to recovery * but you can't be too sure when the heart is involved ... maybe it's time to consider hanging up the skates ... best of luck to him ... Cheers.
