With the NHL game between the 2 organizations stinking up the joint (AGAIN!! ), I figured to lighten the mood. Goal and assist each for Milroy and Grabovsky. 42 saves for Halak. 1 assist for Kosty. Both goals scored on the power play. At least something went right this Remembrance Day in Toronto.

I think the AHL refereees stayed & did the NHL game. I don't think they'd lower their standards that far.

There was still homerism there, at least in selecting the 3 stars. Pogge gets 2nd star on 37 shots. Halak gets the win, the shutout and 42 shots and is excluded. Good to see Grabovsky start to score. I think he's our #2 centre in the short and maybe long term, if he can adjust quickly enough to get to the show this year. Milroy was 1st star. He's been getting more of those lately. I hope it's because he's finally adjusted and not because he's simply an excellent AHL'er.

Back to back starts and wins for Halak, good for him.
Nice to see the boys playing better and getting back to .500 hockey after a few tough losses early on. They can get a winning record on Tuesday when they play the Baby Flames from Omaha.
Is this finally the breakout year for Milroy?

I, along with most Hamilton fans, had been concerned about the Bulldogs until the last couple of weeks. Now as I think about it, though, they were never blown out of any of their games and their record early in the season could easily have been much better with a bit of luck. I think the Hamilton team is actually very solid and will do well this year (subject to call-ups and injuries). I, like most, do not like the way Lever has been coaching the team, but maybe we should give him the benefit of the doubt. He's been trying to implement his system and maybe it's just taking time for the team to buy into it. It seems that they have been playing much better lately as a team (although they gave up way too many shots Saturday afternoon - thank you Mr. Halak for the win!) so maybe Lever does know what he's doing. I feel very comfortable about the Bulldogs fortunes right now.

Lever did say in a recent interview that he thought the problem was lack of familiarity with the system so your comment makes sense. He does have a wealth of experience and has had success at both the NHL and AHL level, so I'd be hesitant to say he doesn't know what he's doing. To a certain extent, the players must bear responsability. Offense seems to be the problem. I don't see Locke, for example, tearing up the league, and the Byelorussians barely understand what's going on, let alone follow instructions.

Back up the trolly. Nothing Don Lever's doing is helping this team win. The power play is still wretched, team defense is still a pipe dream and god forbid we'll ever see a decent break-out pass find a forward that's in the right place on the ice. Are too many players still playing as individuals? Yes. But should it take more than 90 games to install a system for professional hockey players to play within? No. While not all of these players were with Hamilton last year, many of the key guys were. And the team had very similar problems. The wins Hamilton is collecting are based almost solely on the talent the players have, and the goaltenders. Christ, at the last home game (and this isn't the first time this sort of thing has happened) Lever couldn't even get the right number of skaters on the ice. He isn't doing anything but destroying careers.
