What are they supposed to do? Sit back & say nothing about the way he has handled it?
He created a mess, He needs to be held accountable & he can't be free of criticism because there could be some backlash from his supporters.

oh no don't get me wrong, he must be criticized for his lack of leadership (I'm a great leader, the best leader, no one can lead like I can) and . . . I'd say foresight but how about any sight? . . . the fear is that "the mushy middle" will again stick up for him -- his supporters nor his detractors will change their stances. the only hope is a better alternative in the fall, and neither Biden nor Sanders are it. the Dems blew it by sticking with the same-old same-old, which was the horse Trump rode in the last election.
I can hear him now: "last time out the Democrats chose Hillary (lock her up!) . . . Biden wasn't good enough. Sanders wasn't good enough. What changed in the past 4 years to make them better? Nothing! Vote for me!"

That evil Trump...
I must the only one who wanted to destroy my TV when Trudeau and his muppets kept saying "according to the experts and WHO, we are taking appropriate measure for air travel"....WHICH WAS DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING but throwing word salads at the virus.
Has everyone forgotten that it was only a few days ago that we stopped flights from Iran and Italy?
And here we are....about to spend 100 billion and counting body bags, playing slap-the-virus whereas we could be spending 5 billion propping up the tourist and airline industry.
What is the saying about glass houses....

That evil Trump...
Trump is responsible and negligent for the lack of testing.....but wait..
Then that evil Trump said that tests are coming and will be fast, cheap and available to all....LIAR
But wait...
Meanwhile back in Canada with the super duper health care....we have tested total about 50,000 as of 2 days ago. About 1 in 660 Canadians.
To get one, you need to be keeled over with symptoms. Or prove you were gallivanting in Iran or Italy.
South Korea is testing 10,000 a DAY.
Why didn't Trudeau prepare us with millions of tests?
Glass house thing again...

It doesn't matter if it's in hospitals, as long as it's effective and fast. One can always bring the test subject to the hopsital or just outside the hospital in a make shift building. I hate to put it in war language but....we need maximum intelligence on the enemy. So far, he's hidden and spreading amongst us... The disappointment is in the amount of time per test. If it is really 45 minutes of time PER test, even 5000 units are only 32 tests per day per unit. In the USA, that's only 160,000 test a day. THAT number would be great if WE had it. Yet, that would not be able to clear OUR population for....206 days. What irks me is that this isn't just Trump failure, a Trudeau failure, or any specific failure in isolation. It's a PLANET WIDE leadership failure to act quickly and decisively. Even Putin, who is well versed in intelligence and bio-weapons, while he closed his border with China quickly, he STILL failed to implement any resources on intelligence on the virus. . BTW....I love how the US intelligence service is claiming they informed Trump, as if the effects of a pandemic were top secret. Crimson Contagion simulation was know to everyone and so where countless other simulations KNOWN by every leader in the world. Including ours and to claim otherwise would mean we have the dumbest military and intelligence in the world. Yet no leader took the necessary steps to keep their country safe. And why is this even a military "secret". FACT....FACT.....FACT that anyone to read in the last 2400 years.....Spartans knowingly and deliberately created an epidemic in Athens during the Peloponnese Wars. AND IT WORKED TO PERFECTION. That's how far back from the history I am well versed, I'm sure it was done well before that. How STUPID does our civilization have to be?

Leaders dont care about their subjects... they care about their own and the ones that keep them in power... simple as that... all political parties in every country cater to special interest and when push comes to shove, politicians care for their own.

HA, I can only convey some personal experiences, so please bear with me ... If he was going by what China had reported then that might have had something to do with it ... as an aside, I haven't believed Possibly, but China initially tried to cover up the extent of COVID-19 and this only worsened the situation ... if they were falsifying their records on the extent of the plague then I can see it affecting other nations' response times ... see the following: NP View on COVID-19: China's lies allowed the coronavirus outbreak to spread*A scenario for you, HA ... you're working on the "China Intelligence Desk" (can't tell you if that's the name they use or not but for conversation's sake ...) and you get a report from one of our operatives in China (could just be from the embassy staff, too) that says there's a new "SARS-type" flu that is rapidly going through the Wuhan area and it's killing people ... it might/might not be classified but it doesn't matter, you'd probably already know what to do with the intel or you wouldn't be in a job in the first place ... bear in mind that, at your level, you aren't permitted to vet what you think you should or shouldn't report ... withholding any intel that came across your desk would probably not only get you fired from the job but depending on what the content is you'd probably be brought up on charges, as well ... so, you receive the intel and prepare a report for the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) so he can brief the PM because it's your job ... I'd suggest that's probably what US Intel was doing, too ... briefing the president is something they'd normally do but going public with it was probably more about covering their butts when dealing with 'Herr Trump' ... Biological warfare goes back long before the Spartans employed if, old friend ... again, please bear with me ... some of our currently-serving military members will know what I'm talking about here, but one of my secondary duties during the last 14 years of my service, was being the Unit Nuclear, Biological, Chemical, Defence (NBCD) rep/officer ... I had both the NON-COM course where we'd train soldiers how to function/fight in contaminated environments and I also had the Unit Officer's course which deals with the IDing and spread of contamination, and how to (manually) plot and track it on a map ... on both courses, we had to learn/review the history of nuclear, biological, and chemical warfare and it's been around for a long time (as you already know) ... as an aside, while it's nice that China is donating medical supplies to Canada to help with combating the plague I can't forgive them for being the primary catalyst in this whole scenario ... in summary, I won't absolve every government on the planet but I honestly believe that response times might have been a lot faster if it weren't for China's falsified reporting ... I sincerely hope your dad is okay, HA ... all the best now ... Cheers.

Here's another one, HA ... it focuses on what the government knew and when ... I think this might also be the case for the American military intel community, as well ... Canadian military intelligence unit issued warning about Wuhan outbreak back in JanuaryNews of the MEDINT unit's work is raising new questions about what the government knew and when
Murray Brewster · CBC · Posted: Apr 10, 2020 4:00 AM ET | Last Updated: 11 hours agoA small, specialized unit within the Canadian military's intelligence branch began producing detailed warnings and analysis about the emergence of the deadly novel coronavirus in Wuhan, China in early January, CBC News has learned. The medical intelligence (MEDINT) cell within Canadian Forces Intelligence Command is tucked away on the edges of the country's security and defence establishment. It has a mandate to track global health trends and contagion outbreaks to predict how they'll affect military operations, but its assessments are heavily influenced by reports from the Five Eyes Intelligence partners, including the U.S. military's National Center for Medical Intelligence (NCMI). For at least one of the country's leading intelligence experts, the fact that the unit was tracking the COVID-19 outbreak and reporting on it raises serious questions about information-sharing within the federal government — and its possible failure to heed early warning signs. The MEDINT cell monitored the early progress of the outbreak in China and assessed how it could affect ongoing missions. More ...

Here's another one, HA ... it focuses on what the government knew and when ... I think this might also be the case for the American military intel community, as well ... Dis, I started the coronavirus thread on January 25th. Immediately begging the internet Gods that there would be a Fortress America. Nobody needs to be in the intelligence community to know that if ChiComms, who don't give a ******* damn about their people, but the minute they start locking down several millions in INDUSTRIAL cities, a MASSIVE financial issue in a major industrial center and key transport hub, then it HAS to be extremely serious. That news was January 21st. Before that, my first raised eyebrow was a case in Thailand, January 12. It was the first case of spread. I am not giving any intelligence units any credit whatsoever for what everybody can see. Nor any credit if they screamed danger at the top of their lungs. After all, Wuhan was getting the Nazi Polish lockdown treatment. Then there is the ABC fake news intelligence report. In order to go after the "evil guy", they have the usually extra reliable "anonymous sources" "tell them" that here was an intelligence report in November. Except there wasn't one. But hey, why bother reporting facts when garbage gets lots of clicks and sells their audience "evil Trump did it". What you are also seeing in the US media is the "repeat a lie and becomes a truth". Other media are taking that "report" as true, by using ABC as a "source", DESPITE no proof and direct denial by those in NCMI. This is common, standard tactic by the leftist media to build a narrative against anyone they hate. And of course, CTV has to spread the lie by selling it to Canadians at 11. Yes they did. I saw it and even though there was a denial several hours earlier that made the report fake news, CTV still ran with it. Did I ever mention a hate the biased, conniving, manipulative lying media? Our Canadian intelligence may be top notch, but in THIS case, not much to give them credit for. ALTHOUGH...we have to give them a bit of leeway since the ChiComms are really good at lying and obfuscating. Mehhh....you think you and me can play the roles of two old rich guys looking for a good time....go over and spy on the CHiComms?

And then there are those who have a beef with whoever the Dems put up. Whatever. But it's so much simpler than that. Keeping him out and making him and his cronies pay for their acts is job 1. Everything else will work itself out.

Are people just going to ignore the first 3 years of his presidency? yup. selective memory amazing, isn't it. but when it comes to choosing which doddering old fool to vote for . . . which is why I say this was the opportunity for the Democrats to offer something different. epic fail. remember, it doesn't come down to popular vote, it comes down to winning a couple of important States.

Here's another one, HA ... it focuses on what the government knew and when ... I think this might also be the case for the American military intel community, as well ... Dis, I started the coronavirus thread on January 25th. Immediately begging the internet Gods that there would be a Fortress America. The article states that the first major briefing on the pandemic occurred in early January (sic) ... what they're questioning now is what was done with that intel after it was released and how seriously was it taken (by the government) ... so, where was the disconnect ... both the CDS and the Minster of Defence would have both been in on this ... would they have debriefed the PM or did they think that it wasn't necessary ... if it's the latter then both should be removed from their posts ... again, where's the disconnect ... if they did brief the PM then we're into another issue ... That would be the first case outside of China, yes ... this is the article that Wikipedia refers to; however ... ... the article states also that the US Intel community knew of this back in November 2019 and provided briefings for it (I addressed this below, as well) ... there was a virus in Asia that was putting American troops in danger and that the Intel was passed ... if they did have any concerns they should have been taking precautions at the point the Intel was first delivered but, again, where's the disconnect ... was Trump briefed or one of his staff briefed on this and, if so, why was it not taken seriously ... moreover, the article also states that the Americans did not share this Intel with their allies, namely Canada yet, they have the audacity to point their fingers at China for trying to cover it up ... so, who's telling the truth ... Right-wing or left-wing is irrelevant, news agencies often focus on the story and not necessarily the truth ... in addition to left-wing news agencies like ABC, we must add FOX News (reporting that people are overreacting to a virus that is just another strain of the flu) and The Rebel (if you don't agree with us you're stupid) to that list of questionable news sources ... hence, like your take on ABC, I don't find FOX News or The Rebel to be credible news outlets ... yet, there are differences between the US and Canadian right-wing lobbies, IMHO ... FOX News actually supported the Trump by trying to downplay the impact of coronavirus, while The Rebel is so right-wing that even Andrew Scheer distanced himself from them, knowing that they were a detriment to his campaign ... I won't get into the left-wing media at this point, but trust me when I say that I question their altruism, also ... This kind of sums up China's cover-up, FOX News, and Trumps entire tenure as POTUS to me ... "We're on dangerous ground right now, because of our secrets and our lies. They're practically what define us. When the truth offends, we lie and lie until we can no longer remember it is even there. But it is...still there. Every lie we tell incurs a debt to the truth. Sooner or later, that debt is paid." - Professor Valery Legasov (Jared Harris) ... that "debt" is being paid off now ... This is what the left accuses the right of, too ... in this context I find the neocon-right (the politics of permanent fear) and the progressive-left (the politics of permanent offence) to be similar to one another ... their ideologies may be different but the vehicles they use to promote those ideologies are the same ... more specifically, they're both more about finding out what's wrong with the other side than they are about promoting what good they, themselves, can do ... having said that, I have watched right-wing news outlets, sure, but I tend to tire of their rhetoric rather quickly ... conversely, I find the left-wing media to be about "sunshine, lollipops, and rainbows," and I can only stomach so much of that ... Oh really ... please elaborate ... ... For what it's worth, Time is a left-leaning magazine ... still, it's hard to determine who to believe, so I'd suggest that we're debating everything based on perspective ... hence, is it a case of irresponsible left-wing reporting or is it a case of a top military official outright lying about it so as to cover his arse (they've done it before) ... I mean, if Trump can lie on every single day of his tenure, why can't his Vice Chair of the JCS ... it would be a convenient reply to: "It would have been in the United States' interest to share it with us and other allies so we could have a common front in what was to be a global pandemic," - Wesley Wark I'm in ... two things only, though ... try to blend in ... and, don't bring any attention to yourself ...

I differ there. There are no people in the Trump camp who really care if there's an alternative or not. There are a whole bunch of people who hate Trump and will never vote for him. And then there are those who have a beef with whoever the Dems put up. It's always something they think is personally important (deluded gun advocates who think the Dems want to take their guns away), or people who have been brainwashed into thinking universal health care is a bad thing. Whatever. But it's so much simpler than that. The choice is: 1) a despotic 70 year old criminal who won't rest until he has everything and you have nothing, or 2) anyone else It shouldn't be a difficult choice. It isn't. Pure evil on one side. That's all you need to know. Voting for anyone or anything that helps Trump to a second campaign is not an inconvenience or an annoying smell. It's suicide. Keeping him out and making him and his cronies pay for their acts is job 1. Everything else will work itself out. meandering thoughts for a Friday night . . . as you imply, there are those in Canada that will never vote Liberal no matter what and there are those in Canada that will never vote Conservative no matter what (at least there are alternatives here). There are those in the States that will never vote Democrat no matter what and there are those in the States that will never vote Republican no matter what. I think we can agree on that. calling one side elite and the other neanderthal (or despicables) will not change that. what were the issues that Trump won on? Hillary's military cover-up (so what if it was proved to be false -- it was perceived possible) -- the military is a rightish issue -- and abortion -- pro-life is a strong rightish issue. Trump won the military with honey and he won the conservative church with honey. he hasn't come through, but he hasn't been called on it because the Dems have been trying to bring him down with legislation/impeachment (which was never going to work) and now everything they (the Dems) say and do is tainted. They continue to attack personality and activity -- some of which their own members have been guilty of (though not on Trump's scale) -- and all that does is strengthen the mettle of his supporters. all parties need to win the mushy middle. name calling will not do that but will chase someone to the "other" side (Hillary's biggest mistake was using the term despicable); it wound up defining whole voting areas and that chased votes away and proved Trump's thesis that the Democrats "thought they were so smart" and if you didn't vote for them you were a yokel. one commentator said that all the Democrats had to do was run a watermelon and Trump would have lost and that all the Republicans had to do was run a watermelon and Hillary would have lost. in other words, the worst possible candidates ran against each other and it wound up a "pick 'em". your option 2) needs to be qualified. it isn't "anyone"; it's anyone with a likable personality. because that's what US -- and even Canadian -- politics has become: a popularity contest. which is why Harper won (he was more likable than the alternatives) and why Trudeau won (he was more likable than Harper) and why Trudeau won again (he was more likable than Scheer) -- and why Trudeau will probably win again (he is more likable than the alternatives on the way). policy? what's that? [/rambling-for-now] I wish I'd seen this post before I pounded out my reply to HA ... will reply later ... I'm going OUTSIDE ... yes, the BBQ needs cleaning ... later ... Cheers.

The Atlantic is as far left as it gets and a permanent hate-on for Trump. You read it to confirm what your opinion is on Trump. I read it as how far it will go with what would be liable in Canada. Confirmation bias.

OK but is the timeline of events wrong; ie: what happened, when it happened and and what were the subsequent actions.
