For anyone needing a hockey fix and tired of Netflix there is a documentary on the SuperChannel Network called The Russian Five. It follows the Detroit Red Wings from drafting and helping the Russians defect in the early 90's to the struggles they had winning the cup eventually. It also highlights the Roy game, the Lemieux/Draper and the limo accident. It is really well done.

Thanks. I will have a look. I've been watching the replays of Cup Finals games on Sportsnet & NBC. Sportsnet actually showed the last game of the 67 Finals, as a salve to Leaf fans I guess. It was in black & white. Not much color TV that long ago. I did enjoy yesterday's game on NBC - again. The Hawks scored twice in 17 seconds with about a minute to go to beat Boston & win the Cup.

Nice call Habitual, that was good.
Something that is not near as entertaining per se but related in some ways is the short doc The Defector about Mogilny's escape with Sabres management from Stockholm in the summer of 1989. My God, that Russia team at the Worlds was absolutely stacked. What was it, Fedorov centering Mogilny and Bure?
I also find myself, once the kids are in bed and my wife is on the crusade each evening to video chat with as many family and friends as possible, watching playoff games from the '76-79 dynasty. I was way too young to remember that era but I just love it. A few minutes ago I was watching Tremblay beat the crap out of Bobby Schmautz. I also love the way each time there was a scrum and the Sheriff Robinson arrived on the scene no one on the B's wanted anything to do with giving it a go with him.

I also love the way each time there was a scrum and the Sheriff Robinson arrived on the scene no one on the B's wanted anything to do with giving it a go with him. This clip has been posted many times on this board...but it fits here. Too bad it's not better quality. Feb. 17, 1974. The Habs were defending Champs, and the Flyers were on their way to their first Cup. They had some elite skill, backed by Bernie Parent--but they were absolute Neanderthals in terms of the game's tone: intimidation and mayhem. On this Sunday afternoon at the Forum, Robinson took care of their (the league's) most notable fighter--Dave Schultz--who had earlier KOed John Van Boxmeer. I remember my Hab-hating classmates cheering for us when we swept them in the '76 Finals.

Thanks, CH. That was a good tilt.
For some reason I thought the famous beat down that Robinson gave Schultz was from the 1975-76 regular season, which was symbolic because the Flyers were two-time defending champs with their brand of over the top thuggery and the Habs were on a mission.
