From Arpon Basu's twitter feed:
Alain Vigneault is asked in French about the Canadiens considering Gallagher questionable to play in Game 6 and Vigneault starts laughing in the middle of the question. "If you see my smile, it says it all," he says.
Will this motivate the Habs?

Just when Gallagher was getting going. There HAS to be a suspension. Otherwise the league is partisan. Height doesn't matter. The camera angle from the corner glass shows Niskanen was skating toward and looking at the target the whole time--i.e. Gallagher's head--and extended a cross check with enough force to break his jaw. Gallagher didn't duck or raise his head at the last second. It was seek, aim, destroy. I don't care if Niskanen isn't "that kind of player". Neither was Chara, remember... Nothing less than DONE FOR THIS SERIES is acceptable. What's taking them so long? Really, you look at the film, talk to the player. Busy coming up with some rationalization why a fine is sufficient?

Break a jaw, get 1 game... not a bad deal... If we're losing, time for some Habs to get suspended... if they got the cojones...

I'm hoping they get another crack at Niskanen in Game 7 ... he was just suspended one game for his action on Brendan Gallagher ... one bloody game, man ... they're going to have to get motivation from somewhere ... maybe seeing their leader on the sidelines will so something for them ... Cheers.

Crosschecks to the face that break jaws & put people out of playoff games count for so little. I guess I should be surprised that Parros actually had the balls to suspend him.

Sometimes you have to wonder if something like this is taken like, "well, we've got to do something, I guess" ... it's almost seems like a waste of time convening a hearing ... if I were a Philly fan I'd probably feel relieved it wasn't more, but I'm not and I really feel the organization and Brendan Gallagher literally got the short end of the stick on this one ... Cheers.

If that had been McDavid or Matthews with a broken jaw, Niskanen would've been expelled from the bubble.
But...Gallagher's a "pest". He has a "reputation" with the refs.
Some players are more equal than others.

Some players are more equal than others. I wonder if it wasn't just an 'even-up' kind of decision ... Jesperi Kotkaniemi got one game, so what better opportunity to even it up by suspending Matt Liskanen for the same ... I'm not saying this is the case, but it certainly wouldn't surprise me either ... Cheers.

Gallagher will miss games. Sanheim was on the ensuing PP. Tired of "optics" or "making things even", if that's the case. If that's a marquee player requiring jaw surgery and missing crucial playoff games--aren't they all?--the ruling would've been...let's say more than one game. Great to be engaged in playoff turmoil again. Not that I enjoy dirty play and injuries, but that's hockey. A welcome slice of normalcy.

What a trade-off. So if one of our guys cross-checks Giroux in the face and puts him out of commission, they'll only get a one-game suspension, too? What a bargain!

The key factor involves which club is Canadian and which is American. Talk to any Canuck fan about the Grand Larceny in 2011.

That might've been Daddy Campbell's influence at work--starting with the Chara "hit" on Pacioretty. Then again, that farce occurred in March. There were likely prior examples that season. That Bias ran through the entire playoffs...no matter who they played. All kinds of crap in the Tampa series. I watched every game--hoping they'd lose. But it is definitely probable that if Brad Marchand was on a Canadian-based team, he'd have been suspended more than 6 times for a total of 19 games. A footnote to the Canucks in those Finals--if only Luongo had been stingier in Boston.

Some even say 5 minimum would have been appropriate. They showed some other incidents, including by Mr Lady Bing Nishkinin crosschecking Crosby to the face, so not a first time offender. And then last year, Kadri delivered a cross check to the face when he was a Leaf and got 5 games. So maybe there is something to league ensuring US teams advance in the playoffs. By any measure 1 game is a joke.

Alain Vigneault going to bat for his player ... doesn't really matter what he says, it doesn't excuse the action ... I used to have some respect for Vigneault but now he's just a dolt. I understand he needs to support his player but he should just say "Let's see what the league says". Instead he makes an idiot of himself: 1) "Gally seemed OK". What? He's bleeding profusely from the mouth and lost teeth. Moreover, it is not unusual for someone who is seriously hurt, even a concussion, to be pumped on adrenalin immediately after sustaining the injury only to be diagnosed with a serious injury later. 2) AV actually called it a "hockey play". WTF. When has a crosscheck too the face ever been a hockey play? 3) And then he advances the 'Chara Defence' that the player delivering the crosscheck is taller than the opponent so they are allowed to crosscheck the opponent in the face as if it's a taller player's chest. That's how Chara plays, but I don't believe anyone has actually promoted it as a legitimate way to play. Perhaps we should dress our tallest players tomorrow and take advantage of AV's new rule. AV should learn to be quiet instead of proving himself to be an idiot.

AV should learn to be quiet instead of proving himself to be an idiot. It's like when Marchand low-bridged Salo years ago, and Vigneault called Julien's comments about Marchand protecting himself "stupid." How wild is it when coaches defend completely dirty plays like this. A "hockey play" because Gallagher is "shorter" than most players. Please. You have to lift your stick regardless how tall your opponent is.

The Habs have been good at channeling the Us vs the World mentality since the start of this summer gig. Price and Weber were very clear that nobody gave them a chance against championship calibre PIT, and they wanted to prove people wrong. Julien went down, and they stormed back with their best and most complete game in a couple of years. Their young centre gets booted out of game five with an exaggerated punishment for a boarding minor, and they shorten the bench and battle back from two deficits to win with an exclamation mark. Now their heart and soul guy is done, so they need to Rally for Gally.
I don’t know what to expect tonight. We really are a mediocre team that can flip a switch and both overachieve (examples above) and underachieve (two 8 game losing streaks this shortened season). Whatever happens, the new Habs lingering visual of playoff hockey will be Gally grinning with his Hallowe’en-esque bloody lips/mouth, apparently with a broken jaw that nobody knew about at the time. Pin that baby on the bulletin board for tonight and any future playoff games.
GHG.

What the heck does Muller do with the lines now? I know he will get the blender out so it probably won't matter who the guys take their first shift with.
I think he should use a Domi-Suzuki-Drouin line to target the likely Hagg-Gostisbehere pair. And use a couple of a balanced lines to keep the Flyers better forwards in check, maybe Tatar-Danault-Byron and Lehkonen-Kotkaniemi-Armia.
The thought of Weal or Weise or Belzile having to suit up for this game does not excite me much.

So as I was saying... That was a fun game to watch. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, in the form of a couple of power-play goals against, or a bad give-away or something that would put the Flyers back in the game. Or a knee-on-knee that takes out Suzuki because as Hab fans we haven't been allowed to have nice things for a very long time now. Serious question... how many times has an opposing player been knocked out and/or seriously injured while playing against Montreal? I know Paul Byron was suspended for knocking out Mackenzie Weegar, but I looked it up and Weegar only missed two games (and then famously knocked out Byron, giving him a concussion in return). But after that, the only ones I can think of are Guillaume Latendresse on Rob Di Maio, and going back even further Alexander Perezhoghin on Keith Primeau. I'm sure there have been others, but I can't think of any. Meanwhile, it seems like we're ALWAYS getting key players knocked out - Gallagher, Price, Pacioretty, Eller, Koivu, Zednik... and that's just in the playoffs!
