Hard to lose two great Canadians on same day.
My memories of Meeker is as a 10 year old watching his hockey camp on CBC. Still can remember his interview with Peter Mahivlich following New Year's Eve game against Red Army.

Golly gee! What a life. Meeker was rookie of the year in 1946-47. Won the Cup his first 3 years....then again in 1950-51 vs. the Habs. Meeker (#11) had 1G, 1A in 11 playoff games that season. The assist was on Barilko's OT Cup winner. He almost won it on a wraparound. McNeil made a nice save at the post, then fell and didn't regain his feet. Meeker centred it to Harry Watson (#4), who had a crack at it. The Rocket missed intercepting the pass, then went for a wide turn away from the play, leaving the opening for Barilko, who came in from the point. Fuzzy footage...I don't know if McNeil made the save on Watson or if it hit the post...but the puck came right out to Barilko, who roofed a backhand. =========== A great broadcasting career...genuine excitement and energy. Breaking down plays with the telestrator...using his unique brand of honesty.

Still can remember his interview with Peter Mahivlich following New Year's Eve game against Red Army. I remember that interview like it was yesterday ... Peter Mahovlich actually apologized to the country for not beating the Russians ... another poignant interview for me was Johnny Esaw interviewing Phil Esposito after the Vancouver game where Espo tees off on the fan base ...

Hard to forget his, "Player A went around Player B 'like a hoop around a barrel!'" He couldn’t put the puck in the ocean from the end of a pier. His commentary will be missed.
