I was shocked to hear this. It sounds as though he has been diagnosed with a heart condition.
Man, what a career this guy had. Who knows, it is entirely possible that Lundqvist has now played his final game.
Washington is in a tough spot in a tough division. Samsanov looks like a real talent, but at 23 years old and only 26 NHL games to his name, I doubt the Capitals want him making 75 percent of the starts.
Thinking about it, there are not a lot of great options available. Schneider's career kind of fell off a cliff. Craig Anderson is really old. Jimmy Howard is terrible.

They should be calling Vegas... Fleury would be a great fit if Lundqvist definitely retires.

Yeah, for sure, in terms of goalie quality Fleury is by far the best Washington could hope for.
I imagine cap space will be the issue. McCrimmon seems out of touch with reality, so the likelihood that he would eat 50 percent of Fleury's hit ($3.5 million for both 2020-21 and 2021-22) seems unlikely. And moreover, even if Vegas would do it, Washington is really jammed up hard against the ceiling and they only have 17 skaters under contract at the moment (I heard somewhere that Kempny is out long-term so he moving over to LTIR). Lundqvist is only making $1.5, so MacLellan may have to look around in the bargain bin because he may have no other choice.
