I figured I would start a thread to keep track of all the COVID-related news from around the league.

Good subject thread.
I am highly skeptical that millionaires snd billionaires do not have access to a vaccine.
I've mentioned before that back in the old country, my friend is a doctor and sits on the regional covid team. We talked about Sputnik and it's efficacy and availabilty. Yes, it's available and his closing remark was "who has the money".
I know a sport loaded with millionaires....
Plus the NHL made inquiries but backed away.
Sooo....its statistically impossible that 2 thousand people involved around this in the NHL wont get infected. Particularly now that its raging.
Let's see....

Do these guys have Covid or simply cancelling "for abundance of caution"? It seems only the later.
The other thing, if one gets it then the entire team can get it at the same time. Actually, TWO teams can get it at the same time. And the staff.
This is going to be interesting....if they don't already have that magic potient in their blood......

They are quick to say that it's only due to "an over abundance of caution". Hopefully that's true, and not teams going "it's just a little bit of COVID"...
I'm not saying they will do this - I hope they don't do this - but I could see a team playing fast and loose with the COVID-quarantine/contact tracing rules. Like, "meh, he's asymptomatic, he probably got it 7 days ago, he's near the end of the contagion period... what's a couple of days here or there?"

It's going to be a problem, but the league is going to soldier through. Just like the NBA, but it won't be without problems. The league just postponed 2 Boston Celtics games because Boston doesn't have the minimum 8 players due to positive Covid tests and contact tracing. And one of the positive tests was Jayson Tatum, who is their best player so he's out for the next 2 weeks. And even the guys that don't test positive but were in contact need to sit out a week.
That's a huge wild card in how this season goes. I believe the league will get in the games, but team performance will be in no small part influenced by Covid. What if Price gets Covid? Or Weber? The extra roster spots will help but it's going to be a tough year...

As an outsider looking in, it's not like pro sports athletes have to wait in line for medical services, anyway, HA ... it doesn't matter the sport, if you're a pro athlete, and you get injured during a game, you're pretty much pushed to the head of the treatment line ... they get the best of everything, and it's hard not to ask just how much money has played a part in that ... as an aside, I have a friend who is a retired Mountie, and he told me that money also influences the judicial process, as well ... if you've got the cash you can beat hard time, or be acquitted of a crime, and that's in Canada ... Oh yeah, the thread ... here's Mika Zibanejad after his fight with COVID-19 ...

If there is a "lower body injury", an "upper body injury".....what is Covid? "Too much greed injury"?

It's not like it highly contagious and dangerous. Who can a bit of lying hurt? Besides, I don't think they will get anything because I'm highly suspicious of secret vaccines. But having said that.....the Brit version is now in circulation. I can see one lousy game where one player has it and the next day, 60 people. Then public pressure will shut them down. They can live in their own little hockey bubble, but not in a social bubble. NHL is playing with PR fire....or worse....but then there are damn prioritie$

Other then a small and short example here and there, there has never been any long term enduring social or political system that can remove the above and beyond benefits that power brings. Spears or guns or money, they are all the means to that power. One day, after Captain Kirk stops trying to repopulate the universe, we may have that equality. Looks like the Russians had a party...
This comes on the heels of the NHL fining the Capitals $100,000 for violating COVID protocols. One can't help but wonder if they let infected players play...

The report I heard, was the Capitals were fined $100,000 because their players violated protocols by having others in their room. The NHL rules now is only one person to a hotel room at all times. Ovechkin had the other Russian players in his room. They are in Covid Related Protocol Absense, because they broke the bubble. No one has Covid, but since they broke the bubble, they'll need to be tested, and the Capitals are waiting to hear if they need to quarantine the players for 14 days ....

I hate to see Ovechkin not playing, but I’m glad the rest of the league now sees what can happen if you break the bubble

New Jersey with 10 players out on Covid. Ouch!

If NJ has 10 players out and it's 14 days mandatory rest, now what? They field their AHL team?
How about the last team they played? They didn't get all 10 playets in one shot.
This is indeed the COVID CUP....

New Jersey now up to 14 players out.
Buffalo games have been cancelled through Feb 8. What's interesting about this one is that the Sabres are reportedly "furious" at the league:
John Vogl, Sabres beat writer: When NHL players agreed to a season, they knew there'd be risks. The Sabres believe they were forced to take unnecessary risks. Their radar went up when Zajac was added to the protocol list Friday. When Palmieri played Saturday and went on the list Sunday, the Sabres wanted answers from the league and the Devils. They didn't get any and had to play. It turns out they played against five Devils who are now sitting out.
Buffalo feels it has taken adequate precautions this season but was forced into a dangerous situation by playing Sunday. The team is now anxiously awaiting its test results.
I don't know if they caught the virus from any of those five, but whoo-boy if they did. One team is careful, the other team loses control of the situation, and now the first team is in trouble.
What a mess.

My big worry is the playoffs getting cancelled on us, just when our team has a chance at making them and going in as favourites, to a certain extent. At least as real Cup candidates.
I fear the 1994 Expos all over again.
