Watched the tape of the Canada/Slovakia game and paid special attention to Juraj Mikus. Wow, does he remind me of Ryder. Same skating stride, same tendency to hold onto the puck in his own end, though he doesn't shoot it quite as often as Ryder. Very similar style of play.
Price was ok. One 'great save', was better than it looked. Our Mikus made a cross ice pass on a PP to the opposing winger who shot it immediately. There was a gap, but he guy shot it too far into Price and it hit him near the knee on his pad. Price kicked out his leg a split second later, so it looked like a marvellous save, but even it he hadn't moved his leg it would have hit him. I did see a nice glove grab and good positioning, but the team is playing a disciplined game in front of him. He made a solid save on a breakaway and his size might play into opposing players 'tightening' up on the stick in order to make the perfect shot.

U.S. 1 Canada 0 going into the third period, semi-finals.
Gagner in the box, leads to a PP goal for the States. Cross-ice pass off Staal's skate and into the net.
Gotta dig deep here....the U.S. is working hard.
Price is solid....Frazee too for the States. The Americans are blocking a ton of shots--we can't get anything going on the PP.
Our only hope is that the States gets tired after playing yesterday...and we find the extra gear.
EDIT:
Canada scores on their 8th PP of the game.
1-1. Just over 7 minutes left.

Tied at one now. I'm 'watching' the game on broadband, but not by choice. I've watched previous games in this format, and the feed has been strong. Bandwidth has been seriously strained in this feed today.

Yep.....hate shootouts. Has to be the biggest relief when you win em, and the biggest rip-off when you lose em....I feel sorry for the losing goalie. Frazee played his rear off...
But Toews with 3 goals in the shootout. Wow.

To their credit they were quick to reply. The answer wasn't satisfying though. They claim everything on their end is fine. I'm on a gigabit connection within a T3 network. Internet access and applications aren't lagging on my P4Ht with 1 gig of ram. They just didn't have the infrastructure in place for the traffic that tuned in to watch the game.

Glad for the W, but still hate the shootout. I do too. I still have issue with a skills competition deciding a team sport. I always will. Let's decide the Superbowl with a contest to see which quarterback can throw the ball further, or which receiver can run the 100yds faster. But I digress ... We won a game we came out very flat for. I expected that. I didn't expect to see us struggle to adapt during the game. That concerned me. Hopefully it's something they can work on before the final. Time to sit down and watch some of the tapes of the Russian team from this year to see if they can learn anything. I haven't seen any of their games, but by most accounts they've been impressive, and their goaltending has been solid.

Carey Price post-game interview on TSN.
Interviewer: So how do you top this?
Price: By winning the gold medal in a couple of days. This is just a stepping stone. We haven't won anything yet.

We haven't won anything yet.Hard not to like his attitude and performance. When he failed to make the team last year he didn't sulk. He went back to work, refocused, and came in and took it this year. His performance to date has justified it. If I had to guess, Canadiens scouts saw this in his character when they interviewed him before the draft.

As a preview for the 2007 draft, you guys might want to take a look at this guy, next Friday in World JRs Finals: Alexey Cherepanov RW Left-handed from 5'10 to 6' 0" (varies depending on sources) 162-183 lbs 01/15/89 Avangard Omsk He is currently the tournament's leading scorer (including his goal against sweden) with 5 goals 3 assists for 8 points. Alexey played 29 of the Avangard 32 games this year. While being the youngest on the team he managed 10 goals and 9 assists (rank 6th in points for Omsk). From HF:There is a lot of interest in this young player and rightfully so. One of the most offensively skilled players in his age group. With his strong early season play in the RSL, Avangard’s rookie Alexei Cherepanov has emerged as a bona fide early first rounder for the upcoming 2007 NHL draft. Has been very impressive with 18 points, including 10 goals in 25 games. Mature for age, has tremendous offensive skills. He handles the puck well at high speed. ISS ranked him 22nd in December, a position where the Habs could grab him.

Omsk's owner is one of the hardest to deal with in all of Russia. With no transfer agreement in place .... his position might slip in the draft.
Great to see PricePlay well .... but I can't get too excited for the Habs future just yet. Visions of Jimmy Waite, Maxime Ouellet, and many more just can't get out of my head.

Fabulous play be Carey Price, well deserving of the Player of the Game honour. He kept the boys in during the first two when the Americans just beat Canada to every puck. The Canucks were very flat and didn't really test Frazee in the first forty. They finally showed their game legs in the final frame. Carey was particulary impressive in the 10 minute OT, during a 4 on 3 power play that was more like a shooting gallery. Kid has game and also is cool and focussed. Looks good so far, just need one more win!
Our lads will face Russia and Pavel Valentenko on Friday. He has had a solid tourney so far and looked good in today's win.
On another note, Belarus won 3-1 today against the Germans and our younger Kosty had two helpers.

Good result for Canada, however, I still have deep doubts about the team's offensive abilities. They have to work too hard for their goals. Hopefully they can find their touch in time for the big game. Go Canada Go!!!!!!!

Hopefully they can find their touch in time for the big game. Go Canada Go!!!!!!! I didn't want to draw comparisons to the Habs ... great goaltending, and a great defense is how this team is winning. With those two in place, they only needed adequate offense (and why they keep offensive talented players at home for this tourney is beyond me, but an arguement for another thread) so far. Tell's me that the Habs have to fill that doughnut hole.

They are a bit nerve-wracking to watch in a close game because they just don't have the game breaking abilities of past teams. Oh well, one more game and they can come home crowned world junior champs. This has been Carey Price's coming out party for sure, let's keep it going young man!!

If we win the gold, Price will be the overwhelming MVP.
The Russians just keep bringing it, from what I've seen in this tournament.

3-0 Canada after 20 minutes.
The Habs should take a page out of this game plan. Right out of the gate, we took our game to them. Hartsburg had the boys ready...and they haven't disappointed yet. The most lopsided period I've seen from Canada in this tournament. Price was sharp on a few shots....but we just kept taking it to them. 2 PP goals...
Not over, by any means.....but we're looking really good. The boys are playing the game of their lives. No reason not to keep it up for another 40 minutes.
GO CANADA GO
