The Doggies overcame 2-0 and 3-1 leads to win 4-3 in overtime, beating the Iowa Stars. Lapierre scored the winner. Kosty Sr. with 1+1. Grabovsky also 1+1. Milroy scored the other. Good character win. However, much like their parent club, the defensive zone coverage at many times leaves much to be desired.

After three straight losses just before New Year as a result of a brutal road trip and five games in six, they were in need of a game like this to get it going again. That schedule is crazy with another three in four for our young ones. Let's see if they can take all the remaining games this weekend on this run.
Good to see all the usual suspects making it happen again tonight. Lapierre sounds like he has finally recovered from that flu that hit him prior to the new year.

AK played an excellent game. He scored a pure goal-scorer's goal when he broke down the right side one-on-one and fired a howitzer from the face-off circle that Dan Ellis never had a chance on. He made a terrific play to spring Grabovski at the Iowa blue line for the game tying goal, working along the left boards and then making a perfect pass to Grabovski as he broke between the two D as he crossed the line.
Danis was pretty weak in goal. He doesn't look confident and his rebound control is not very strong. On the first goal he was screened as the Dallas player did a spin-a-rama move in the slot and fired a low shot along the ice. However, I think he could have done a better job covering the bottom of the net. He seemed lost out there for the most part. Maybe it's rust (he hasn't played much lately) but I think it's clearly apparent that he is now #2 in Hamilton.
Mad Max had more energy then in the past few games and he scored a nice goal to win the game, but he didn't seem to be at 100% - I didn't think he played with the same fervor that he had before his call-up. Hopefully he's just suffering the after-effects of the flu.
All-in-all it was a boring game for the most part. Iowa played a tight defensive game and frustrated the Dogs for the most part. Round 2 tomorrow night.
