I've seen the notice two nights in a row on Leafs' hockey...but little was said as to cause of death at 61. Tragic story of alcoholism. He was no fan of coach Mike Brophy. An article from Oct. 2018 on the release of Frycer's book: My Wild Hockey LifeFrycer

Brophy was a hardass and I'm sure, the reason the Habs were able to get Russ Courtnall from the Leafs for John Kordic.
Courtnall had terrific speed and a scoring touch but Brophy wanted a tougher team.

Brophy was a hardass and I'm sure, the reason the Habs were able to get Russ Courtnall from the Leafs for John Kordic. Courtnall had terrific speed and a scoring touch but Brophy wanted a tougher team. Back then the Leafs drafted some talented young players such as, Vincent Damphousse, Ed Olczyk, and Daniel Marois, but after they moved Dave Semenko and Al Secord, they had no toughness in their lineup ... John Brophy was able to convince then-GM, Gord Stellik, that John Kordic was the next Bobby Probert, and since Kordic was one of the tougher guys in the league, it was an easy sell ... Montreal had enough toughness on their team as it was so, letting Kordic go wasn't so bad ... getting Russ Courntall was one of Serge Savard's best trades ... Cheers.
