Look at the recovery speed by Guhle on this play. The big guy can move! Some minor movement for two prospects in Europe. Gordin was traded from the SKA system to Sochi. We shall see at what level he plays for his new team. Olofsson has missed a bit of time with an injury of late, but he has been loaned for a two week period from Timrå to Frölunda. Too bad Norlinder was not back there already, as they could have been teammates for a bit. Wow what acceleration and stride... he mowed the guy down He has good speed, but in that clip, it looks better because the forward, who looks like he has Hal Gill type speed, had to slow down at the blue line and so wasn't at speed like he might have been. Regardless, Guhle is a good skater, in top speed and agility. BTW, which Savard is McCagg referring to? David? Denis? Serge?

With Gordin moving from SKA to Sochi, the big question was at which of the three levels (KHL, VHL, MHL) would the Sochi system play him? Looks like, at least for the time being, he is getting a shot in the KHL. Nice debut too, with his first career KHL goal and point. Maybe a move from an organization stacked with promising young prospects was a good idea. Hope he can keep it going.
Not his usual snipe. A hard working goal in front never giving up on the play. #94 in blue.

Some nice performances last night.
Myšák with a three point night with two goals and an assist. That is his third straight game with two goals.
Simoneau had a three pointer too, with a goal and two helpers. He now leads the Q in scoring.
Trudeau had two assists in the same game.
Vrbetic with another blank sheet for North Bay.

A few other goal scorers from last night:
Gorniak, Stapley, Roy and Xhekaj. It was Xhekaj’s fourth straight game with a goal.
Northeastern (Harris, Struble) won 1-0 in OT against Boston U (Tuch). None of the prospects had a point, but it was great to see Tuch back in action after missing a bit over a month of hockey. He needs to be healthy to have a chance to make the WJC team this year.
Roy’s winner in OT and then the Gorniak and Stapley goals.

Simoneau and Myšák both stay hot. Simoneau with two goals and assist for the first star. Myšák with a goal and an assist, and a nod as his game’s second star.
Sobolev with two assists.
Kidney and Trudeau with an assist against each other.
Biondi with his team’s only goal in a 2-1 loss.
Gorniak and Harris with an assist each in their games.

There is a lot to like about Guhle’s season so far. He has 12 assists in 14 games. He logs a ton of minutes and plays in all situations for Prince Albert. He is also long rumoured to be the guy to be named as captain for Team Canada at the upcoming WJC. PA is not that strong a team, so there is some sense he could also be a prime target for a deadline move to a contender. Come on Oil Kings, bring the local kid home at the deadline!

WJC team captain is huge. It solidifies him as a leader and as a top defensive prospect in the NHL. I fully expect that he's in our top 6 by next season. Basically a Chiarot replacement...with better everything.

Guhle will just be that much better in every respect.

I will make sure I post the updates in the right thread lol. I added two posts yesterday on Guhle and Roy, but put them in the Price thread by mistake. Oops. Doing things on your phone while on the road!
Some good Sunday performances by a few of the usual suspects. Roy had another goal and two assist game in a 7-3 loss. Yup, he was in on all his team’s goals. Simoneau was not to be outdone, and had a three point night as well, all assists. Those two still sit one-two in Q points lead. Kidney had an assist, and is tied for eighth. Over in the OHL, Myšák had an assist and finds himself tied for 10 in OHL scoring.

More on Roy’s impressive start to the season. Looking more like the guy that was picked first overall in the QMJHL draft.

Not sure if the management turnover makes it more or less likely that Jordan Harris signs with the Habs. I would say it's a plus. Harris is basically a free agent at this point. The Habs are in a bit of chaos but kids like Harris want to play first and foremost and the Habs are in a position to sell him on an accelerated path to the NHL if he plays well.
We have guys like Savard and Edmundson locked in with contracts, but I don't think Gorton will think twice about moving/burying either or both of those guys to make room for more talented players.
Personally. I'm not totally sold on Harris but that's only from seeing him a couple times in person. He's a smooth player that does everything well but doesn't have any one skill or trait that makes you notice him. But being a good puck moving dman is a subtle thing.. well-timed carry outs, making a good first pass, knowing when to pinch, using his skating/positioning to create angles on both ends. I don't think he has the offensive ceiling of Adam Fox, who was more than a PPG player in 3 seasons at Harvard. Harris isn't putting up those kinds of numbers.
Anyway, it's frustrating that Harris is now a major flight risk. It would be so easy for the Bruins to offer him a contract. Hopefully Gorton can use his own Boston connections to convince the kid to stay with the Habs.

Guhle get traded
Kaiden Guhle, the Canadiens’ first-round pick (16th overall) at the 2020 NHL Draft, has a new junior team.
On Wednesday, the Prince Albert Raiders traded the 19-year-old defenceman to the Edmonton Oil Kings for a package that included Ottawa Senators prospect Carson Latimer and a first-round pick (13th overall) at the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft.
It was also announced Wednesday that Guhle has been named to Canada’s National Junior Team Selection Camp, where he will be joined by Joshua Roy, the Canadiens’ fifth-round pick (150th overall) at this year’s NHL Draft.
In 17 games this season with Prince Albert, Guhle had 2-13-15 totals. Roy, a left-winger with the Sherbrooke Phoenix, leads the QMJHL in scoring with 15-24-39 totals in 21 games.

Now in the NCAAs and not exactly tearing it up .... So where does Harris rank when compared to Romanov, Norlinder, Guhle, Struble, Mailloux ? ....

Post by folatre on Dec 5, 2021 15:37:24 GMT -5
I would rank him behind Romanov, Guhle, and Norlinder. Harris is more polished with the puck and, in general, making decisions than Struble. And I think Harris is more likely to have a NHL career than Struble, but something tells me Struble may have the higher ceiling. I have no clue about Mailloux.
Maybe I am biased (I honestly do not think highly of NCAA hockey) and I estimate that most kids who play at such a level for three or four years are most likely never going to be impactful players in the NHL. Fox is an exception. But I think we all agree Harris is no Fox. Is he basically Will Butcher or Mike Reilly? Time will say.
I hope he signs so they can plug him into professional hockey and see what he is made of. But if Gorton finds Harris and his agent to be noncommittal, then just trade him to an American club likely to be in the 2022 playoffs since that may get the kid dreaming big.

I always run with "push them at the highest level". Dominating in a 4-5th level league amounts to a hill of beans. The sales pitch of "learning" doesn't translate unless there is a massive hole in their game and only low level competition helps them build it up.
Harris has proven nothing by staying in the NCAA. Nor finding examples here and there bolster the argument that he's a future NHLer.
I find it more telling that "stars" in the lower leagues, including European ones never even get drafted. Never mind any NHL future.

Sunday funday for a few of the lads.
Roy and Kidney both had a 1+1 game and Myšák had a pair of assists. Roy’s goal was the OT winner and was a beauty.

Trade the rights of Harris to the Rangers for the rights to Vitali Kravtsov. Habs would have to add more but it helps solve two problems.

The issue wasn't so much Harris per se, but the seeming lack of regular contact with the guy. Maybe the Harris camp is fussy about that and have been angling all along to forego a contract with MTL so he could be a free agent when he's done with Northeastern, but at a minimum it speaks to how the Habs development team has been staffed (or understaffed) under Bergevin.
I was listening to Andrew Berkshire's podcast and he had someone on who used to work for MLSE and she said that organization is crawling with development people, nutritionists, psychologists, power skating coaches... you name it. They spare no expense. Reading between the lines of some of Gorton's comments and comments from the Jordan Harris camp suggests the Habs are an organization that runs pretty lean and in many cases just doesn't even have the kinds of positions that you find at organizations like MLSE or Fenway Sports Group.
