I wonder what these 4 players are thinking looking at Frank Selke. Can you name them? Hint: 2 of them got their name on the cup that year.

From L-R: __________________, ________________, Jean Beliveau, Dickie Moore. Working on the other two. EDIT: I think I have it narrowed down to 1952-53, as Paul Masnick played on only 1 Habs' Cup winner. Paul Masnick, ______________, Jean Beliveau, Dickie Moore. EDIT: Even though the eyebrows don't appear thick enough I'm going to guess: Paul Masnick, Bernie Geoffrion, Jean Beliveau, Dickie Moore. They were all 21 that year, so I'm presuming that was the impetus for the promo shot. 2 names NOT on the Cup. (deduced from hockeydb) Beliveau and Masnick. Beliveau played only 3 regular season games, and 0 playoff games in 1952-53. Selke would purchase the Quebec Senior League and turn it pro, forcing Beliveau (via the signed B-form) to play solely with the Habs the next season. Both Moore and Geoffrion played all 12 playoff games. Masnick played only 6, so perhaps 6 of the 7 in the first round vs. Chicagp, and none in the 5-game Final vs. Boston.

Note that Beliveau was benched during the playoffs that year (52-53) so his name was not recorded as part of the Stanley cup win. Thank the gods offer sheets didn’t exist back then. I don't think he was benched. From what I've read, he couldn't play more than 3 games for the Habs without turning pro. He was very happy with the Quebec Aces at the time. Then Selke bought the QSHL and turned IT pro, forcing Beliveau to become a full-time Hab. Great question, HABsurd! Thanks for that link, Dis!

Also interesting is the composition of the photo. It was a common theme at the time to depict the new up and coming generation to look towards the “old master” for guidance. Can you imagine a present day photo of Suzuki, Caulfield, Romanov and Evans looking longingly at Bergevin to impart some wisdom? Also the photographer didn’t do a good job to hide all the boxes Moore stood on to make him taller than Beliveau.

That is hilarious, that has to be added to the HabsRus hall of jokes... very funny Also, Selke looks like the warden from Shawshank Redemption and both Suze and CC would need boxes to stand on
