Glenn Wesley traded to T.O. according to TSN. Wow, the D-man shelf is emptying out fast, next up Briser, fingers crossed. www.tsn.ca/

I HOPE they gave up something good in return If it's a 4th or 5 th or something then it doesn't look good on the Briser front. Laffs D gets better....yikes I am getting more and more worried each day...could..this..be..their year?

Teams looking for help on D have a shorter and shorter list of possibilities. Good. Now teams have a couple of days to worry, and decide maybe they should gamble too. Brisebois with a million paid off the next two seasons means an offensive D for 3 million a year, I think that should still fetch something. And I was wondering.... if Philly is apparently going hard after Damphousse, might they be interested in Perreault ? He's not a typical Flyer, nor is Brisebois, but on a team with toughness there might be some interest in adding some skill. And Gagné is supposedly available - he's possibly out for the year, but that's not much of a problem for us anyhow Perreault, Brisebois with a million paid, along with the Flyers 2nd rounder for Gagné ? Trying to be optimistic here...

Booby Clark is an idiot but he's no fool and he ain't giving AS Gagne unless AS is giving up huge amounts - that's alot more than Brise and a draft.
Wesley is over the hill and is not what the leafs need on D. If that's all the leafs are doing before the deadline there not getting by the 2nd round even if the other teams do nothing. The other teams haven't even started to deal so the leafs as always may be the first out of the gate but they will not be anywhere in sight at the finish line - 35 years and counting.

This helps them because they don't have to play guys like Ric Jackman or Belak as much. But it certainly is not their missing piece of the puzzle.

Also, he's rumoured to have put Gagné on the table for Damphousse, so he might be willing to let him go for some other package. Gotta be optimistic you know. Maybe he'd want Gilmour too ? And McKay ? (ok, going off the deep end with THAT one !)

Here is a simple little trade. Dampy and a 3rd for Gagne. Gagne for Hainsey. Not bad idea if I say so myself. On the other hand, defense is THE priority. With Souray iffy and Breezy on the way to the funny farm, I would not be thrilled to do this trade.

We are very thin on d-men in the organization. How thin? So thin that Sylvain Blouin was playing on the second pairing in Hamilton the other night! We cannot afford to surrender anyone from the blueline, not unless we somehow contrive to replace them.

I KNOW how thin we are at the blue line. Boy, do I ever know that. That's why I wanted Ference for the little hamster team. That's before PTH spanked my behind.
Watching Blouin play on defense was very painful. I thought if I brought a bag of oats, and yelled "here Mr. Ed" he would just trot to the side and dive in. That's how bad he was.

Oh, I wouldn't get on Blouin's case. I'm sure it wasn't his idea to skate backward more than he's used to. And I have to agree with PTH; Florida could very well have specifically wanted Hordichuk.

Hordichuk seems to pick up 5 penalty minutes per game, so that tells ya something. Uber-goon? After all, Florida doesn't have much toughness . Unless, of course, Worrell is on the block.......

Hordichuk seems to pick up 5 penalty minutes per game, so that tells ya something. Uber-goon? After all, Florida doesn't have much toughness . Unless, of course, Worrell is on the block....... Hordichuk profile: ASSETS: Is a non-stop energy guy shift after shift. Hits all that moves. Will take on all combatants and always protect his teammates. FLAWS: Needs to improve his overall game in order to gain regular employment in the NHL. Must show some discipline so as to earn more ice time. CAREER POTENTIAL: Hordichuk will become a fan favorite early on in Phoenix. If he can show improvement in his all-around ability, he could become a player similar to Blues winger Tyson Nash: A constant banger and general pain in the behind for the opposition. $450,000 *** Ference profile: ASSETS: Loves to hit anything in sight. Has sound defensive instincts and is extremely aggressive in front of the net. Is improving his skating ability. FLAWS: Must differentiate between good penalties and bad penalties. Should add even more bulk to his 6-3 frame. CAREER POTENTIAL: If Ference continues to improve, he should become an integral part of the Panthers' young blueline corps. He could shine as a rugged top-four rearguard. $975,000, signed through 2004-05.

I would think that Savard is targeting some of these kind of guys. What I saw in LA was a more skilled but "contact shy" team lose to a larger but less skilled team.
WE NEED SIZE. Even a team as skilled as the Sens are realizing their mistake of "skill" only team. Look at Vancouver, size everywhere. Look at Montreal, hamsters everywhere.

I would do Hainsey for gagne in a flash if AS could work it through another team. I just don't see Clark giving AS a french Canadian potential star for anything but a king's ransom. and thqt means more than hainsey.
