Well kids if his debut is an indicator we got a keeper.Carey was the first star of the game. Should have had a shutout had the dogs cleared the man in front. Beaten on nice deflection off of a point shot that beat Price between the legs. Anyways my observations looks very relaxed plays his angles extremely well, butterfly sans the floppieness of you know who.Has a great glove and definitely is athletic.Tonight wasn't the greatest test though he did have a four or five shot flurry in the where he was forced to go side to side. His size is very evident even when he's on his knees where he doesn't stay very long,if he sticks to the fundementals alot of pucks will just hit him because he's so big. Lets hope he's the next Martin Brodeur and fans can start hating the Habs again because of our goalkeeping for the next 15 years. HFTO

Great pro debut by the young man tonight, and all that in front of a big crowd in Hamilton.
This may ease some of the pain coming from a few Dogs fans who felt jipped that Montreal let Halak go to the worlds instead of coming back for the Dogs' playoff run.
Keep it up young Carey!

Kostitsyn hasn't been in the line-up since the end of the NHL season either. Was he shipped off to play for Belarus?

price is a stud, it won't suprise me to see him between the pipes in montreal next season, more than likely the season after he'll be our #1.

I don't like to get to excited especially with the high expectations but first impressions sometimes aren't wrong.I know the best thing for the kid is to let him develop and play in Hamilton and play alot. although I was super impressed last night. Maybe he could make the jump but how good will the Habs really be next year?Logically we will sign some middle of the road help and if the kids continue to track along we'll be in that 6-8 slot seemingly back on track. I'd bet the Habs will be impressed to and that temptation will be there to give him a roster spot.Other netminders have done it so why not Price. I guess we'll see soon enough. If I were Danis I'd be kissing the pros goodbye in Montreal anyways unless Halak is moved.A Calder Cup run by Price may fast track him, we'll see spoon enough. I relish the though of having a lights out goalie for a decade plus, that more than anything will help in restoring us to in being an elite club. HFTO

Price was very impressive last night, he looked like a vet not a 19 year old playing his first game in the AHL. The lone goal was deflected so he had no chance on it.

Price was supposedly very good during the World Juniors, too. The kid is a man among boys. Very consistent, but can he endure a long season? The NHL isn't Junior hockey (obviously).

good to see you guys are seeing what i saw live this season twice for the tri-city americans vs vancouer giants, the most dominant junior goaltender i've ever seen live.
the most dominant forward i've ever seen live was paul kariya as a 16 year old in penticton. most dominant power forward jerome iginla, best stay at home defender willie mitchell.
best captain? sorry to say it, but darcy tucker
he's in that kind of company.
the oldest looking junior i've ever seen was sheldon souray for kelowna rockets in about 95-96 he had a full on beard!
anyway, when i saw price make the giants look like a piece of cake in their own building twice i knew he was special, or has the ability in him to be great.

Devil's advocate to the rescue.
Yes, there is plenty of potential. I had always been concerned in one way. I really like a goalie to win a big one. Price hadn't done that until the WJC this January. Which would normally make me go "YES!". Except I saw him play and I wasn't totally convinced. He was good, don't get me wrong, but he wasn't in that Patrick Roy 'wink' zone. The team played very well in front of him and he was able to make the key saves when they made mistakes. That's also a good sign. I'm, say, 80% convinced he's our next franchise goalie.
Signed:
Hard to satisfy

According to posters on another board, Price didn't even make the trip to Grand Rapids. He stayed in Hamilton to work with Rollie. They also mentioned that Price will most likely start tonight.

What's really impressive is that he played in two games that meant a lot for the teams he was playing against: Grand Rapids was fighting for a playoff spot (which they ultimately backed into) and Rochester was fighting for 2nd place and home ice advantage in round 1 of the playoffs. In both cases he was in tough and obiously shone (1st star and 3rd star). I look forward to seeing him in the playoffs (I missed his home debut as I was out of town ). I'm excited about the playoffs - with Price in net and Lapierre, Stortini and Kostitsyn (hopefully healthy) back in the lineup the Dogs should have a real chance to go far.

I think we'll see Price backin gup one of Huet or Halak in the fall, with one of the 2 gone in a trade. You don't pay 850K to have a guy play in the minors.

But as a young goaltender, you'll want him to play. If he's up with the club next season, he won't be riding the pine. Same thing with Halak. Bob has a "good" problem on his hands. He'll probably get more return from Halak than Huet because Huet has never played a full season, nor has he ever reached 20 wins. Doesn't help that he was injured, either. I smell a possible off-season deal. Here are some teams that need goaltending help: - Columbus: Norrena and Leclaire don't seem to be panning out, but I could be wrong. Anybody know much about their goaltending situation? - Florida: Relying on a 40-year-old with back problems, as Auld did not pan out well at all. Don't know who we could get from in return though. - St. Louis: Legace isn't a game-breaker. May want some upgrades. Could get some decent assets in return (Brewer?). - Tampa Bay: Denis didn't work out, and Holmqvist is inconsistent. Could possibly create a packaged deal, but they'd have to give up at least Richards. Any other thoughts?

Considering we may not be able to sign Markov and/or Souray...it's nice to have some other cards to deal...and a goaltender card is an ace.

i don't know if any of our 3 goaltenders has proven enough at the nhl level to warrant trading for a quality player in return. hard to say what other gm's are thinking, i guess huet would fetch the most out of the two of them. but halak could turn out to be the better goalie.
too bad he didn't get a chance in that last game, i think if huet got pulled at 3-1 halak might have won it for us.
