Late second round and early third gets into murkier territory. There could be good Russian prospects (Trikozov and Perevalov) dropping lower than their talent warrants. It is possible a big project like Lamoureux could possibly be on the board. I also believe there will be good value wingers (Lutz, Ingram) slated to go in the 40-50 range who end up being available because there could be another run on centres and d-men in the middle of the second round.
I have a feeling neither of the aforementioned Russians drop this far nor will Lamoureux. So I say the Habs grab a Manitoba boy who went the USHL path -- Adam Ingram -- at 62nd. I think Ingram has a promising, well balanced offensive toolkit and he could become a viable pro once his frame fills out. And maybe with the pick to kick off the third Montreal will take a superior skating Canadian d-man who can play a physical game -- Isaiah George.

Yurov and Miroshnichenko both in Montreal for the draft and meeting with teams. Good to see at least the top guys there in person given all the craziness going on right now in Russia.

If they keep both 26 and 33, I think guys they really like will drop. Just feels that way this draft and the variability of lists from the mid point onwards. That is exciting. I too hope they keep 33, as it would be cool to draft first overall on both days. The scouts can get all excited about the guy “that we did not think would be there” 😂 and fell in their lap. Heck, the draft is at home so they can get the kid’s jersey all stitched up with his name. What if they have a shot at Ottawa's #7? Would you be willing to give up #26? |

There's a report that Kaprizov was on his way there, turned around and came back  . He is reported to have one of those fake Army certificates. As Yakov Smirnoff says, "What a country", only this carries an entirely different connotation. |

I love those 3 picks at the end of 4 and early 5th round. Anyone we think is still worth drafting should be gone then.
I hope we've looked into trading up to a team like Toronto that is very low on picks - they have 3 for the entire draft. There must be a way to do a 3 or 4 for 1 deal to bet a higher pick (and not just move up 2 slots to get a coveted player, I always find that seems horribly expensive. Like buying champagne on the Eiffel tower for 30 Euro a glass, you're buying something at the most expensive it can be at the worst moment.)

Mock drafts have been all over the place. The last one I glanced at today while "working" was Wyshynski's (ESPN) and he has the Habs taking Wright and Ohgren at 26.

I think with limited playing time over 2 years, valuations will be all over. This isn't a bad draft to have a lot of picks in, since some guys just didn't get ice time to show what they might be, but might catch up over the next season or two. |
