I don’t get this . It’s a joke in my opinion.
Price played FIVE games. How that classifies as perseverance (usually referred to by most as comeback player of the year) and He basically quit on his team (not sure how that is dedication). It was Price’s actions that mired Montreal into a bottom feeder.
If the argument is that he persevered through a mental health issue (which was then CHANGED to addiction), I would argue that Jonathan Drouin was the more deserving Hab to be nominated. He fought through death threats and real anxiety to return and produce like he had previous to his leaving the team
I knew as soon as Price was a finalist that him winning was rubber stamped.

I'm not sure why you think he quit on the team. As Price said during the post season press conference, despite the off season surgery, he was still experiencing pain and swelling. That says to me that he was not physically able to play.

That says to me that he was not physically able to play. You are more believing than me EVERY time Price gets injured it's like the caramel secret. We get fed lies and Price never addresses the media (while injured). Sorry, but I can't believe a word from this team when it comes to Price. (And he is my favourite player on this team). July he had his surgery ... media reports was it was a routine operation with 1 month recovery. He'd be ready for the start of the season. Training camp - no Price. No report of why October - Price is going into PAP. Reports were it was for mental health, depression (maybe reports were wrong, made up?) January - we learn it was an addiction February - we learn his leg is still giving issues. There was no report of ANY leg troubles while he was in PAP or away from the team to deal with his off ice issue March - a one month recovery surgery turns into an 8 month ordeal. Was it just his leg? Or did the team use his leg as an excuse to give him more time away? All I know, is I will never believe this team again when it comes to Price ... it's a constant barrage of lies. And this isn't the first injury that went this way. Remember the injury a few years ago where we were fed he was 1 week away from November to March, and he never did return!

No doubt part of Price's selection was name recognition. If Montambault or even Allen had 'gone through' what Carey did they aren't even nominated for the Masterton.
I also think a lot of it is the mental health issue angle and the selection emphasizing mental health injuries are serious, shouldn't be stigmatized and Carey should be recognized for coming forward, volunteering for the PAP, and persevering. This is somewhat ironic, as I'm not sure Carey was exactly forthcoming with his mental health issues. As well it seems the talk is all about his knee as what kept him out so long. Struggling to overcome a knee injury is not exactly heroic stuff for an athlete.
Lastly, isn't the trophy usually presented to the player that through their perseverance overcomes their obstacles. Has Carey overcome his issues? If so, someone should tell Hughes.
