Yup. I figure it means we move Dadonov in 50 games as a playoff rental.
A good long-term deal for us, but in the short-term it means we're less likely to go for any kind of UFAs this summer.

I guess Vegas is not as bothered by having Weber on LTIR as the Habs would be since Vegas is up against the CAP limit. Then, I guess they save actual dollars.

Hopefully Dadanov doesn’t score 80 points before the deadline and endanger the Bedard sweeps. Or maybe he does and we overplay Monty to compensate. That boosts his value. B

Vegas lowers their real cap by 5M, though they'll need to find a way to be cap compliant at some point in the summer. Montreal gets rid of a long-term commitment when there's no reason they commit to spending to the cap (which is kind of what you need if you go LTIR). So, who gets Dadonov at 50% at the deadline ?

Thanks for the Capfriendly stuff Dis. Explains things more clearly now. The trade benefits both teams, IMHO ... never thought there'd be a taker for Shea Weber's contract, then an opportunity drops right on their laps ... Cheers.

Hughes did say he was far more comfortable taking on a short term contract, and a guy who can help team offense next season, and gain long term cap flexibility without giving up an asset to move Weber’s contract. He also said more changes will happen with the long term in mind.
Sad way to see the Captain’s tenure end, but it was a cap/LTIR anchor.
And, Hughes gets another asset to move at the deadline.

Nope. I'm not so sure it will be Hoff that will be moved. It won't surprise anyone to know Drouin would be first on my list. Josh is up there and so is Gally. the untouchables are Suze and Cole. But after that, someone has to go. It may not be up to Hughes as it may depend on who comes knocking and who they're looking for and what they're offering.

Not so sure it's such a sad ending. Being on the payroll for the rest of his contract would have led to some disgruntlement among fans, especially when the guy never shows up to team events. And if he's on the payroll as your captain, when do you take away the 'C'. Suze will be next up, but I suspect they'll wait another season before they do that.

This is a great trade for Habs. 1) Dump Weber contract; and 2) pick up a decent potential top 6 who either stays as a UFA because he falls in love with Mtl, or we dump him at the trade deadline for a decent return.
This is a no lose for Hughes!

The composition of Montreal's roster made this deal a necessity. When you have kids (last season it was Suzuki still on his ELC and this season it is Caufield) meeting the criteria for bonuses, LTIR "relief" is in actuality more like LTIR hell. So for that reason alone it made sense to move expeditiously to part ways with Weber. In addition, there is a very good chance Price will spend most of the season on LTIR so that would have further aggravated this issue.
I really could care less about Dadonov. The only place he ever looked very good was in Florida when he was getting crazy power play cookies with Barkov and Huberdeau.
I concur with those who are forecasting Hughes cannot want to see Dadonov, Hoffman, and Drouin all on the roster this fall. Too many low-energy passengers who only do their job (produce offensively) on an intermittent basis is simply not smart roster design. I would think he moves one in the summer (probably with retention in order to maximize chance to get a decent asset). And other two could be shipped out at the deadline.

Or Drouin and Dads play lights out because it's contract time Don't even think $$$ motivates Drouin. Drouin is one of those players who doesn't love hockey. It was just something he is good at and there is more money available to him if he did that then work an 9-5 office job.

But when he does that, he isn't living up to his potential, because he becomes a turnover machine, whereas if he played "the right way" he'd have the talent to take advantage of the opportunities created.

I don't know what Jonathan Drouin's issues are, and I don't care to know; yet, as an outsider looking in, I think he needs to play in a city where his personal issues aren't everyone else's business ... I think of how much Phil Danault likes LA, and what a change of scenery did for him ... then, I think of Drouin, and how much good a change of environments could possibly do for him, too ... as for Evgenii Dadonov, I see him more as a transient player than anything else ... Cheers.
