He has impressed at camp for sure against men. Well earned ELC. Now I look forward to see what he can do back in Mississauga this season and build off this camp experience.

In most ways, he's already NHL ready. If not for the glut of forwards, I suspect he'd be starting the year in Montreal. Still too many contracts to sort out, though. Even then, he's probably better off in Mississauga. I'm pretty sure he spends only 1 more year there.

IQ+++ I really like this kid. He was surprised to be taken ahead of del bel but a ton of goals in junior doesn't get a free pass to the NHL. School smarts and IQ isn't the same as game smarts. Playing football I had trouble with strategy. In high school 22 dive right meant #2 back through the #2 hole. In college it varied against a four three or a three four defense. In my one year of pro's the blockers helped the backs with holes and also the good running backs helped the linemen by feinting to draw the tacklers away making the blocking easier. Some slow smart running backs not only found the holes but also read the field to see where they would cut after exiting the holes. Some big strong (not me) backs just played smash mouth football and won the one on one battles without using the gray matter. Then I was in position to execute the play and the QB calls an audible. Drawing plays on chalkboard isn't as important as executing the hits on the field. Gretzky thrived on smarts, Ovechkin on power, Orr on speed and Bossy on his shot.
