Dach and slaf together... put Anderson with them and you have a power line

Apologies for that, guys ... I know where the disconnect was and it has to do with the guy sitting behind the screen at my end ... just amended everything, and thanks for your patience ... much appreciated ...

Is no one watching? It’s blacked out here but Caufield has us in the lead 1-0 on a PP goal. He has 4 shots as well.

Both teams are moving the puck quickly, but there as expected there is plenty of imprecision.
The Habs d-men look focused and under control thus far. Allen looks very good tonight.
Aside from Caufield on the power play, no one else is really putting spicy shots on net.

Boys are playing good, high energy hockey. Not everything is perfect, of course. Lazy line change by the d-pair leads to a penalty. Tatar cashes in on the power play, not a solid PK.

How are the kids looking? Slaf, Mesar, Beck, Guhle, Roy, Harris, Norlinder and Dach?

In my estimation, the Guhle and Harris pair has played quite well. Mesar is making things happen. Slafkovsky and Beck have had some good two-way shifts, showing genuine NHL skating and work rate. But their lines have just not been able to create as many high end scoring chances as their possession and zone entry numbers would perhaps deserve.
Roy, Norlinder and Dach look okay. Roy is playing fourth line so not much is happening, though thankfully St. Louis is using him on the power play. Norlinder is being sheltered a bit on the third pair. Dach seems confident with the puck, but offensively he has not made any appearances at the right time in the home plate area; also, he made a mistake on the penalty kill where Tatar scored.

The game winning goal was unfortunate (a touch of bad luck with the NJ plumber's skate, though Primeau owns plenty of responsibility too). But at least the boys played up tempo hockey throughout and pushed hard in the third.
I was impressed with the d-corps' transition game. The Devils never really established much of a forecheck. The forwards were generally responsible and got numbers in the neutral zone whether attacking or defending. However, I believe the boys were often too cute (overpassing) in the o-zone but that is not entirely a bad thing because I think a big part of St. Louis' message is hey this is hockey so don't be afraid to be creative.

How did Matheson look? I feel like his 25 minutes of ice time is a sign of things to come given how thin our blue line is. He's going to get the Chiarot treatment, going from second to first line minutes upon his arrival to Montreal.

He`s a very good skater.

He`s a very good skater. I also thought that he looked good last night. I would say that he plays at the exact same pace as Petry and has a similar knack for being that calming presence when the puck is on his stick. Defensively, he seemed pretty aggressive and more or less successful at stepping up and killing plays. We'll see what he brings with the increased minutes and responsibility. I could see him having some very good nights and some mistake prone nights. So again... kinda Petry-ish.

Whenever I see Petry-ish, what comes to mind is a petri dish. Anyway, back to hockey. Matheson and Petry seem to be very similar. We'll have to see if Matheson can lay out the body the way Petry did. Other than that, we've gained 6 years in age and about $1.5MM in cap space. Matheson also is about 20 lbs lighter, if one can believe hockeydb.com.

In my assessment the only asset Petry had was his skating, particularly his speed. Does Math have that kind of skating?

Don't put too much faith in weight numbers on DB.
I recently got married to a weight scale and I'm suprised how far I'm going up and down in weight on a daily basis. As much as 4 pounds in a day. Worse when you think you reached a new low up you go again.
Playing hockey would double that since these guys can lose as much as several pounds of sweat in a game.
I'm currently winning by 11 pounds...but I got 30 to go.
