The AAV ($3.85) and the term (2 years) make sense. He is not really a guy who can carry the load, but this is what a good tandem goalie costs these days.
Of course, the question is whether the Habs will have another guy capable of strong play for 40 starts per year during the course of Allen's contract.

I'm Ok with this. He's an OK goalie and seems like a good teammate with leadership qualities. We will need the latter with all the youth on the team. Hopefully he can be a good mentor to one of our young unproven goalies because as of right now we've got problems with our current flock of goalies. Primeau is showing he is going to need all the help he can get.

More sensible decisions by management. Allen is not the quality of goalie you'd prefer as your #1, but he is capable and for a team that's rebuilding, this extension makes a lot of sense. He'll be here for 3 more years, unless traded, which remains an option and might well suit Jake too. It's also noteworthy that Allen was willing to be extended. That suggests that he and his family like the city, and that he likes the direction of the team, despite the re-build. That's a compliment to management.
Or, looking at the other side of the coin, he was happy enough with the dollars offered. I like the former explanation better.

3.85 million for Jake Allen???
That’s nuts. It ONLY makes sense if they solve the Carey Price issue first. And they haven’t .
And before anyone reminds me of LTIR. That is only supposed to be used for the player injured. If we have Jake Allen and any other goalie under contract we can’t use Carey’s 10.5 million for a forward or defenseman … the LTIR relief is to replace PRICE only
