We've already been told to expect a few lean years, and I couldn't care less if they win a preseason game or not ... they're building a contender in Laval and, hopefully, that will eventually equate to a contender in Montreal ... we're watching a lot of the team's future core getting looks, making mistakes, and developing ... I've never seen a rebuild from the ground, up, in Montreal, like ... ever ... so, this is new territory for a lot of us (and the franchise?) and I'm all in for the ride ... Cheers. Yes, I am taking a of a season game too seriously but what I was commenting on was the mistakes made by veterans. It didn't bother me that the Leafs stars took advantage of 2 rookies for their first goal. But it does bug me to see experienced guys making mistakes. I know it's early but the vets have to show the rookies how its done. Vets are showing rookies how it is done. It's pre-season, and most vets just go through the motions in pre-season. They are disinterested and ake sure they don't get hurt . Rookies don't have that luxury. The real problems is that many of our vets (Drouin, Hoffman, Armia, Dadanov) don't change when they get to the regular season - 'just get the pay check'. If we're worried about leadership and passing down bad attitudes, those vets gotta go. But as no team wants them and their salaries, it may be time to sit them for the kids - maybe a bit of AHL humiliation will get their attention but I doubt it.

Maybe riding a bus and staying in a motel on the road might jolt them into showing some effort

Right on, dude ... it's going to be tough to watch, at times, in the season, but I'm stubborn ... so long as the kids keep busting their butts out there, it gives me a reason to keep watching ... I do, however, have concerns about a few veterans, specifically, Evgenii Dadonov, Mike Hoffman, Joel Armia, and Brendan Gallagher ... Dadonov, Hoffman, and Armia, look as if their best days have already come and gone ... Gallagher is a different situation, though ... I'm not saying he's gone, but if he has a great comeback year, there might be a few teams interested come the trade deadline ... knowing Brent Hughes, and Jeff Gorton, the return will, more than likely, be worth it ... but, don't get me wrong, I actually want to see Gallagher as a part of the future of the team ... just not sure if he'll finish the season in Montreal ... Cheers. Edit: I also have a concern about Jonathan Drouin ... the team needs his best game every night ...

I'll hold off even thinking about the vets until the real season starts. We've seen too many vets look awful in pre-season and then ok when the real games start. That little bit of extra effort and better timing counts.
