Nice Pierre Larouche theme. He was such a phenom in the Q that a lot of people forget Larouche had a very good NHL career.
This should be a challenging game for the boys. Unlike last season, the Penguins are healthy coming out of the gate. And they are playing outstanding hockey.

Slaf hat trick coming up. Slafs hat trick is playing Matthews/Ovie/Crosby in his first 5 days of NHL hockey. Welcome to The Show young man - don't get too star struck!

Some line shuffling at today’s practice. The big news is Allen is off on parental leave due to his wife expecting the birth of their third child. Primeau called up and the Full Monty should play tonight.

Slafkovsky with Evan's & Hoffman? How about putting the guy in a position to succeed.

Slafkovsky with Evan's & Hoffman? How about putting the guy in a position to succeed. Looks like he is only going to get the 9-10 game treatment and then back to Laval this year.

I can see where for most 18 year old kids, the combination of a supportive coaching staff and the experience of real NHL games would be just about perfect. The problem is this kid is not like most kids. Slafkovsky was the first overall pick and throwing him out there with mediocre mates and almost no chance to get on the scoresheet just makes the pressure on this kid worse.
I see the low-energy trifecta on the lineup sheet tonight. The NHL is hard, unforgiving league. I suppose sprinkling low-compete level individuals throughout the line combos is one way to conduct a stealth tank.

I've seen it in a couple of places at least that if this year's crop was included in last year's draft, even if they were a year younger, there were 5 guys at minimum that would have been picked ahead of Slaf. C'est la vie. Doesn't mean Slaf isn't going to be a hell of a player in 3 years,

Dandy and Drouly are pure drek. Slaf is lost.
We don't have anyone better in the AHL so it is what it is.

We have been "blessed" with an abundance of low compete/low IQ players hoffman, dadanov, drouin / Armia, pitlick, Savard, wideman... Too true. Partly that's the price of losing Weber's contract 3 years sooner (Dadanov) and partly the parting gifts from the previous GM (Hoffman, Drouin, Armia, Savard). Wideman is fluff contract wise. Send him down and the CAP is fixed as far as his damage goes.

David Savard is such a black hole. One play he allowed Pens to retain possession because he’s too slow to get to a puck shot around the boards. Then his hands let him down and he can’t corral a pass and gives up a 3 on 1.
2-0. Probably a few mistakes there but man, pushing a rebound right into the centre of the ice may not be the best idea.

I’m fairly certain my shot is quicker and has more zip on it than Gallagher’s - and I can’t skate very well.
Heart does not equal talent and we really have to stop getting attached to these all heart players

There can’t be a team in the NHL that interferes more than Pittsburgh. If I was reffing they might spend half the game in the box. Pressure in front, Pens Dman trying to clear the puck. Habs winger drives for the puck and his check blocks him from getting to the puck. Obvious interference taking away a scoring chance. No call. There were others like that where the guy checking a Hab interferes with him getting to a spot. Puck not near.

Savard will help us get bedard I know. The competitive spirit wants to vomit watching him play. The kids are getting better and better and Savard drags us down. Oh well, the young guys are improving and we’re losing. In practice, best of both worlds. Hope Monty gets 40 games this year. Just don’t get shut out, guys.

I'm watching something more interesting like the cartoon channel.
Up front, we are two players from being more competitive. Dandy and Drooly can be tossed on waiver pot and NO one will touch them. Drooly is simply not interested in competing. Reminds me of decades past with Dagenais and ice grazing.

Chuckle. Naturally we get the interference call against.

A bonehead Drouin play leads to a Pens PP

Seemed like Caufield had a good look on the PP and passed it up for a failed pass.
They have now scored one goal in the last 8 periods.

I find Dadonov is getting "better" every game, with this game being easily his best. At least in his case, there's some hope that maybe he was just out of shape during training camp and can still hit some kind of respectable stride sometime soon.
Drouin, on the other hand, is just a broken human being I'm afraid.
