I thought Nick had a terrible game - poor positoning and poor decisions.
Hoffman is a joke. I was thinking when the ref called the penalty shot that maybe we would be better off with the PP. But then I remembered the last 3+ years of PP ineptness and said "Ah, give Hoffman a chance". Should have gone with the PP but then Burrows would have put Drouin or Hoffman out there, to be helped by Wideman, and same result. Man that PP is bad.
My fix for the PP is to forget all the fancy stuff. Have Monahan taking the face-offs and roving where he wants. Cole in his spot for the shot. Have Gally in front of the net to cause trouble and get rebounds. On the point you have Suze as the QB and then have Guhle, Harris and let them wrist it, or X could slap it. GOAL!!!

Chris Wideman had a rough night. He was brutal on the PP…. Games like this is when your best players need to be the difference. Kaprizov was a beast all night but Suzuki was pretty quiet… Jordan Harris with the most ice on D. He does everything well except really drive offense. You wish he had some Adam Fox in him. Reminds me of Peter Svoboda back in the 80s… I still really like Jake Evans…. I still think Kirby Dach reminds me of Chad Kilger….. Overall I enjoy watching the games. I try to key in on the young guys as it’s more fun… I like Guhle too

That’s 7 guys on the PP. We’d still not score 😂

Maybe trade Burrows for some doughnuts? I don't usually rag on the PP coach because 90% of the time it's simply the case that the talent isn't there. But we have Suze, we have Caufield, we have a healthy Monahan. That's 3 guys who can do the things you need on a successful PP....pass through the Royal Road and get the goalie moving. That still leaves 2 spots for experimentation and I don't mean Drouin or Hoffman or Wideman. WiFi has a very strong wrister from the point. Why not try him occasionally? I always thought his real strengths at this time were in the offensive zone. The rest of the time, the point man is passing to the two faceoff spot guys who should be the creative ones breaking down the box and the goalie. When Hutson arrives, that spot is probably his (optimist, aren't I?). Monahan is a scorer, so put him in the slot. Then try any number of guys after that...Dach, even Evans who is way better offensively than most give him credit for.
The remaining 10%, of a good PP that belongs to the coach, is assigning who is out there. I don't believe Burrows has a good handle on that. On the Canucks, he was the grinder in front of the net, while the Sedins drove the PK'rs nuts. I doubt he had time to analyze anything while he was out there, other than marvel at Henrik and Daniel, who helped make him.

Maybe trade Burrows for some doughnuts? And what's up with Burrows' hair? He better not try and add a mustache to that for Movember. Yikes.

On the PP, it seems they are relying too much on a Caufield one-timer on the cross ice pass. I thought one of the goals this year was to use the bumper spot more a la Tampa Bay but I didn't see much of that action last night. We're now just as predictable but in a different way (i.e. used to be Weber from the point, now it's Caufield from one of the circles). I like the pass to the bumper spot because it creates some havoc with the defensive box even if it doesn't result in a shot. If the defense is allowed to stay in a nice box throughout the PP then they are happy to let you swing the puck around the edges and take well-telegraphed shots. In some ways you judge a PP by how much you can get their PK scrambling and less organized for a split second. We don't do enough of that.

There is no capable QB on the power play. It all starts there.
Suzuki and Caufield are a couple of very nice pieces, but everyone needs to be dangerous.
I like the pass to the bumper too, Boston. I actually think Suzuki would be great in that position but I know they like him coming off the right half wall so he can try to open up spaces. If Suzuki is going to continue to operate there, then I prefer the bumper guy to be a quick hard righty shot.

I've been complaining that wideman and Hoffman have no business on the pp and wifi needs to get a shot on the point... he's heads up, got good lateral movement... he can do it 5 on 5, so he should be better 5 on 4
